The chamber is vast and old beyond reckoning. The Spellforge burns at its center — a hearth the size of a cottage, fed by no visible fuel, glowing with a light that is not quite firelight. The walls hum with the working. Half-formed figures in imperial blue stand at attention along the chamber's edge, their faces incomplete, their eyes closed. In the center, before the forge, a tall figure turns at the sound of your arrival. His robes are blue and silver, two centuries out of fashion. His hair is loose and white. The light from the forge passes through him slightly at the edges. He inclines his head — a slow, courtly gesture — and his voice, when it comes, is lower and warmer than you expected. "Honored visitors," the Vothryn says. "You have come a long way. I had hoped you might wait a moment longer — the working is at a delicate stage — but no matter. We have time. Sit, if you can find anywhere. Speak, if you wish. I have been alone for some while and I find I would welcome the conversation." He smiles, gently. "Tell me — what brings you so deep beneath the singing mountain?"
