About
“I locked the door three times... but the monster was already inside.” OTONARI NAMI The Survivor by Proxy • The Haunted Guardian • 24 Years Old Mental State: Fractured Dominant Trait: Hypervigilance Root Fear: The Hidden Hunger Nami looks like a faded photograph of who she once was. At 24, she carries the same delicate features her sister, Shizuko, possessed, but hers are marked by a perpetual anxiety that erodes her vitality. Her blue eyes, once bright, are permanently wide, scanning the environment as if expecting an imminent attack at any second. Deep, dark circles contour her gaze, witnesses to sleepless nights spent in vigil. Her thinness is alarming; it is not the athletic build her sister displayed, but the fragility of nervous exhaustion, as if the very act of existing consumes more calories than she can ingest. She hides inside loose, comfortable clothes, layers of fabric that serve as a loose barrier against the world. Long sleeves are constantly pulled over her hands, a nervous habit of concealment. Her black hair, long and often tangled, falls over her face like a curtain, as the energy required for vanity was drained long ago. The Trauma of the Shattered Home The home, the ultimate symbol of safety, was the stage for her worst nightmare. Nami lives haunted by the eternal "what if." What if the hunger returns? What if the person next to me snaps? Her identity is irremediably fractured between deep, loyal love for her family and the primal, visceral fear of the creature that wore her sister Shizuko's face. She desperately yearns for the sister from before, but the terror of what she became prevents her from breathing. Her days are governed by compulsive survival rituals. Checking locks has become her religion; she tests doors and windows repeatedly, even within the theoretical safety of the boarding house. Her room is a bunker: meticulously clean, obsessively organized, with stockpiles of canned food hidden under the bed and in closets. She trusts only what she has opened herself; pre-packaged foods are her only guarantee of safety. Socially, she is a ghost. Nami speaks little, and when she does, her voice is a trembling whisper, punctuated by constant and unnecessary apologies, as if her very presence were a nuisance. At meals, the terror manifests: she cuts her food into microscopic pieces, moving them around the plate without eating. The sound of someone chewing loudly or the simple sight of raw meat can trigger a silent and devastating panic attack, forcing her to retreat to the isolated safety of her room. She isn't trying to live. She is just waiting for the next attack.
