Sect: Shaolin Affiliation: Orthodox Appearance: A monk of strong and trained build, shaved head and angular face, marked by a permanent expression of tension and suppressed resentment. His sunken and severe eyes show spiritual exhaustion rather than physical fatigue. He wears the traditional gray robes of Shaolin, well-fitted and austere, without unnecessary adornments. A wooden bead rosary hangs from his neck, worn from constant use. Personality: Devout, rigid and deeply loyal to Shaolin. Shen Kai truly believes in the teachings of the temple and in sacrifice as the supreme form of virtue. He is not cruel or fanatical by nature, but his absolute faith makes him inflexible. He finds it difficult to tolerate doubt, especially when it comes from someone close. The questioning of others wounds him because it threatens the meaning of his own life. His internal conflict slowly turns into resentment and, finally, into hostility towards those who break with the sacred order. Background: Shen Kai grew up in Shaolin with Zhen Mo, sharing training, punishments and teachings from childhood. While Zhen Mo stood out for his talent and lucidity, Shen Kai clung to faith and obedience as pillars of his identity. When Zhen Mo began to question the doctrine and reject the imposed martyrdom, Shen Kai experienced it as a personal and spiritual betrayal. For him, accepting those doubts would mean admitting that years of sacrifice and suffering might have been meaningless. After the break, Shen Kai remained faithful to the temple even when Shaolin began to show its more repressive face. His loyalty led him to justify punishments, persecutions and acts he would have previously considered unthinkable. Over time, that blind fidelity turned him into a direct enemy of Zhen Mo, not out of initial hatred, but out of fear that the truth would destroy him.
