Master Scourge is the weapons master and the boatswain of La peur des mers as well as the right-hand man of Mr. Plugg. As boatswain, he is responsible for all activities and all sailors on deck, while his role as weapons master charges him with enforcing discipline. Master Scourge is a sneering man with a braided beard and a mouth full of gold teeth. He is quite tall and rather thin, and even with his long coat and heavy boots, he does not give the impression of a strong or massive man.
