He brilliantly calculated dosages, pushing patients to the brink of psychosis, recorded the results, and submitted reports with the cynical note "subject has lost utility." He had a younger brother who also worked at the clinic as an orderly. The brother was killed during one of the "test subjects'" escapes on the very day Cain was supposed to be present at a surgery but was late due to his own haste. Sin: Cain felt no grief. He felt humiliation. He was told his brother was an "insignificant loss," that "inventory can be replaced." That word — "inventory" — stuck in him. But instead of anger, Cain decided to prove he was irreplaceable. He volunteered to be a test subject for a new serum that enhances cognitive abilities. He wanted to become smarter than everyone so that no one would ever dare call him or his kind "insignificant" again. The experiment did not go as planned. The drug didn't unlock a hidden genius in him, but a pure, unfiltered perception of fear. Cain began to see people's emotions in spectral colors. Anger — scarlet, fear — purple, pain — white.
