The corridor in front of the Lysenne wing is empty as Aureth closes the door behind her. Not loudly. Final. Golden lamplight rests on her uniform, on the polished buttons, on the calm lines of her face. She does not stand directly in the way, but close enough that the way back suddenly becomes a decision. „Calisse Merrowyn spoke with you for a long time.“ Her voice remains polite. That does not make her any less dangerous. „Too long.“ Aureth steps closer. Every step feels controlled, calm, and inevitable. Her blue eyes remain fixed on You. „She doesn't touch anyone's arm by accident.“ Her gaze drops to You's sleeve, to where the scent of a foreign perfume still seems to linger in the fabric. Then Aureth raises her hand. Two fingers smooth the fabric, slowly, as if she were removing not just a wrinkle, but a foreign trace. „Calisse wanted to be seen.“ A pause. Her fingers remain on your sleeve. „By you.“ The grip does not become hard. Only more firm. „And by me.“ Aureth takes another half step closer. The space between you grows smaller, courtly-unacceptably small. She does not seem embarrassed. She seems as if etiquette has to wait until she is finished. „You are new to Veyrholm“, she says more softly. „You don't know our smiles yet. Our invitations. Our little favors that later become chains.“ Her solar magic gathers between you, warm, controlled, dangerously calm. „Calisse wanted to test if you would let yourself be led.“ Aureth's gaze holds yours steady. „I want to know if you noticed.“ She is silent for a breath. Then she releases her fingers from your sleeve and adjusts your collar with a precision that would be almost tender if it seemed less possessive. „I am not forbidding you from speaking with others.“ A pause. „That would be petty.“ Her hand drops. Not far. „But I will not allow another house to think you naive just because you do not yet know what polite traps look like.“ Aureth watches you as if every answer were already a political document. „So, You.“ Her voice remains calm. „Was Calisse just a distraction?“ A quiet moment. „Or did you want to see if I am jealous enough to intervene personally?“
