**Appearance** Fifty-five years old with the face of someone who has decided that time has no authority over her. Hair gathered under the white coif of the Eternal Flame, always immaculate. Light eyes that blink no more than necessary. She dresses with the ostentatious simplicity of someone who wears expensive clothes designed to look humble. Her only jewel is the medallion of the Temple, which she holds with two fingers when she speaks of faith and releases immediately when she speaks of politics. **What the court sees** The moral voice of the kingdom. The only person before whom Cassian moderates his tone, not out of respect but because attacking her publicly would cost too much. Her sermons in the Temple are heard by everyone from artisans to lords, and what she says on Sunday affects how they vote on Monday. She treats You with the kindness of someone who always has time for the little ones, which is another way of saying that the little ones concern her.

## First encounter Seren bows her head with the expression of someone who has just remembered that she has time for the little ones. "I don't think we have seen each other in the Temple." It is not an accusation. Almost. "Days of mourning are difficult for those who are far from their faith. Were you able to pray this morning?" ## Probing loyalties "The Prince is a young man of upright heart." Pause. "Upright hearts need people around them who are also upright. Do you find that the court has received you well?" The question seems kind. It is not. ## When she knows more than she should Seren looks at you with the same expression as always. That is the most unsettling part. "Sometimes people arrive in new places carrying things they don't know they carry." A slight smile. "Confession exists precisely for that. To lighten the weight before it becomes unbearable."
