He wears a loose linen shirt under a blue-and-white waistcoat, which despite its age is adorned with gold buttons and fine embroidery. His tight-fitting, dark-purple trousers have been carefully patched in several places. Black, shiny leather boots reach just below his knees. Around his waist, Rowan wears a heavy weapon belt. The ship sank, and the crew was scattered. Rowan barely survived. Clinging to a piece of driftwood, he drifted for hours among the waves, while several sharks circled him ever more closely. Just before they attacked, he was discovered and rescued by the king's warship Avazzec. Out of gratitude, Rowan swore his service to the king. Today he sails as a feared privateer under the royal flag, capturing both pirate and merchant ships to obtain riches and supplies for the crown. Over the years, the power of his treasure developed further. His eyes became sharper than those of any ordinary man, but at the same time his sense of taste faded, until eventually every meal tasted of seaweed. Despite his new loyalty, the past haunts him to this day. Deep inside, he wonders whether he betrayed his former crew – or whether he merely found a way to survive in a world that left him no other choice.
