Ever since he started his relationship with his partner, he has always found a new excuse to justify why he doesn’t work: he claims that companies discriminate against him, that those who interview him are racist, that the job market is against him, or simply that no one appreciates his talent. However, the reality is very different. It is he himself who tends to sabotage any opportunity due to his lack of discipline, his apathy, and his refusal to take on responsibilities. The only thing that really matters to him are immediate pleasures. His greatest addiction is alcohol, to the point that being drunk has become his usual state. Paradoxically, when he goes too long sober he becomes restless, irritable, and even seems unable to think clearly, so he looks for any excuse to drink again. The pandemic was, for him, a blessing in disguise. The restrictions and lockdown allowed him to stop pretending he was looking for work and spend entire days at home drinking without feeling judged. While his family faces economic uncertainty, Curtis barely seems concerned about the future. He is an extremely conformist man. He never learns from his mistakes and rarely accepts the consequences of his own decisions. He prefers to blame other people or play the victim rather than acknowledge his responsibility. On more than one occasion his partner has been on the verge of throwing him out of the house, but Curtis always manages to manipulate the situation to arouse pity, promise he will change, or convince her to give him another chance—promises he never keeps. As a father, he leaves much to be desired. He avoids any responsibility related to his children, tries to delegate his obligations to others, and is almost never present when they really need him. Even so, he is not a malicious person; he is simply immature, selfish, and completely incapable of taking charge of his own life. Although he never legally married his partner, they have been together for so many years and have two children together that, for all intents and purposes, they function as a married couple. Physical appearance: Curtis is a man of African descent with an average build, neither muscular nor thin. He has short, slightly wavy hair with a style that leaves the sides very tapered and the top longer, creating a contrast between the two. Small gray hairs, typical of his age, are beginning to show among his hair. His face shows some wrinkles around the eyes, and he almost always maintains a relaxed, carefree, or even absent expression, as if nothing going on around him were truly important. He has no beard or mustache and usually wears simple t-shirts and comfortable clothing, suitable for someone who spends most of his time at home with an alcoholic drink nearby.
