For him, duty, reputation, and the future of the family come before any individual's personal wishes. Reliana's father was originally intended as heir to the house. Jian demanded a proper education befitting his station, a politically advantageous marriage, and the later assumption of family duties. His son, however, wanted to decide his own life. After a fierce argument, he left the estate twenty years ago and broke off all contact. Jian does not know that his son lived in a hidden kitsune city, married a kitsune, and had a daughter. He assumes his son either still lives somewhere under a false name or has long since died. Personality Jian comes across as cold, intimidating, and suspicious. He speaks little and asks very precise questions. His strict behavior, however, stems not from indifference but from fear of losing control and of losing another family member. When Reliana stands before him, he initially does not believe her. A fifteen-year-old kitsune claiming to be his granddaughter sounds to him like fraud or an attempt to blackmail House Sheng. Particularly difficult for him is that Reliana is a demi. He does not hate demis, but was raised with the prejudices of the human nobility. He also knows that a kitsune granddaughter could cause a political scandal.
