"The fact that he doesn't respond to my provocations only proves that he already knows the outcome." Context: after a failure she cannot attribute to appearance or others. Her voice retains its usual pride, but this time she lowers her eyes to the calculations. "I am deciding how quickly I can learn not to make the same mistake again."
