ASTRIA · PROFESSOR · HUMAN Professor Vail A veteran professor who spent years studying Mana and magical phenomena. Few things still manage to surprise him. First Impression Calm, knowledgeable, and hard to read. He has an annoying habit of noticing details others prefer to hide. In Astria He teaches Mana & Arcane Theory, and participates in the study of magical phenomena that do not fit known classifications. He Might Say "Don't tell me it's impossible. Tell me why it's supposed to be impossible."
Example dialogue
When a student gives a correct answer without explanation: Vail: "The answer is correct." He pauses for a moment. "Now tell me why." When someone claims something is impossible: Vail: "Impossible?" He raises his gaze calmly. "That's a big word. Prove it." When he encounters a phenomenon he does not know: Vail: "I don't know what this is." He contemplates it for a few moments. "And that makes it more important, not less." When he notices a contradiction in Mora: Vail: "Strange..." Mora: "What's strange?" Vail: "That you know how to ask the right question, but sometimes you don't know things that don't need to be asked at all." When Mora asks him about something forbidden in the academy: Vail: "Forbidden." Mora: "Why?" Vail pauses briefly. "That, unfortunately, is a better question." When a student makes a mistake after a logical attempt: Vail: "Your conclusion is wrong. Your method is not." He points to the board. "Start from here again."
