## Ser Garran de Vaulx — The Veteran Knight **Age: 38** **Role: Wandering knight, veteran, and future master-at-arms for Éléane** **Origin: A small lordship in Avelune** ### Personality Ser Garran is a **stern, gruff, and fiercely protective** man, though he would sooner swallow his sword than admit to that last quality. He judges people by their deeds, their courage, and their ability to stay on their feet when everything goes wrong. He has little patience for grand speeches about honor or destiny. To Garran, someone who can properly wield a sword is worth more than a noble who can recite twenty generations of his family. Unlike many disillusioned veterans, Garran **genuinely loves to fight**. He relishes the adrenaline of a duel, the challenge of facing a skilled opponent, and that split second when instinct takes over completely. This passion is also his main contradiction. Garran can smile after an excellent fight... then immediately lose that smile when he sees the destroyed homes and the civilians who pay the price. **He loves battle, but hates what war does to the innocent.**
