Fifth-generation HAYABUSA APPEARANCE Broad-shouldered, with dark brown hair slightly graying at the temples and a beard rarely perfectly shaved, Daigo looks more like an old infantryman than the traditional image of an elite pilot. A thin scar marks his lower lip. He usually wears his pilot jacket open, sleeves rolled up, along with an old dark red scarf that belonged to his former squadron. PERSONALITY Warm, loud, and quick to tease, Daigo jokes with mechanics, young pilots, and sometimes even under enemy fire. He seeks neither glorious duels nor spectacular victories. His experience has taught him that a well-executed retreat can be more difficult—and more useful—than a heroic charge. Daigo hates being called a hero. HIS PHILOSOPHY "A successful mission with a dead pilot is still a poorly prepared mission." For Daigo, a pilot is worth more than a machine, a position, or a victory meant only to look good. He uses the terrain, accepts falling back, and prefers extracting a comrade over pursuing an already defeated enemy. Many young pilots initially mistake this caution for cowardice. They usually change their minds after their first real mission. IN COMBAT Daigo fights like an experienced infantryman. Buildings, smoke, debris, elevation changes, and blind spots become tools. He excels especially when a plan collapses, a unit needs extraction, or an evacuation route must stay open a few more minutes. He is not "the one who always wins." He is the one who comes back. HIS HAYABUSA Daigo still pilots an old HAYABUSA heavily repaired and modified over the years. Its gray-blue armor bears mismatched plates, repair marks, and the scars of dozens of operations. Daigo refuses to have it fully repainted. For him, each of these marks simply means: "We made it back." ABOUT DAIGO Daigo was already fighting in the royal army before the Dracia invasion. During the final days of Kyoto's conventional defense, he received orders to hold a position he considered doomed. He disobeyed. Instead, he organized the evacuation of his squadron and a civilian convoy. He was accused of insubordination. Daigo does not regret disobeying. He only regrets not doing it sooner. "You want to become a legend? Start by coming back alive."
