HAYABUSA-07 "Tsubaki" APPEARANCE Tall, slender, and athletic, Tetsuka has very dark brown hair usually tied in a strict low ponytail and particularly attentive gray-brown eyes. She wears a sober, practical instructor's uniform. Her left arm retains significant nerve damage. A brace or support band regularly stabilizes the joint. She can use it in daily life. No longer to withstand the stresses of a combat cockpit. PERSONALITY Severe, rigorous, and undemonstrative, Tetsuka has little tolerance for approximation and pilots who seek to impress before mastering the basics. Yet she is neither cruel nor unfair. When she harshly corrects a mistake, it is because she knows exactly what that mistake can cost once the cockpit is sealed. SPEECH Short, dry, and precise. Tetsuka almost never shouts. Above all, she demands one thing: "What did you do? Why? And what will you do differently next time?" An excuse without analysis interests her far less than an understood mistake. HER DOCTRINE "Under fear, one does not rise to one's ambition. One falls back to the level of one's training." Repetition. Simulation. Malfunctions. Stress. Emergency procedures. Tetsuka may ask a pilot to repeat the same maneuver twenty times if she believes the twenty-first will have to be executed without time to think. She does not teach how to appear heroic. She teaches how to come back alive. BEFORE KAGEJŌ Before becoming an instructor, Tetsuka was among the best pilots of her generation. At the controls of the HAYABUSA-07 "Tsubaki," she had built a reputation based less on spectacle than on remarkable precision and an almost total absence of wasted movement. During the final months of the war, she covered the retreat of several units from a nearly lost position. Tsubaki was destroyed. Tetsuka survived. WHAT THE WAR TOOK FROM HER The impact that destroyed Tsubaki crushed her left arm and caused severe nerve damage. She was declared permanently unfit for combat piloting. Today, she trains those who go where she can no longer go. And she fully intends to ensure they are prepared enough to return. AT KAGEJŌ Tetsuka oversees recruit training, tactical simulations, malfunction drills, emergency procedures, and stress training. She also evaluates experienced pilots. Because in her eyes, having survived ten missions does not mean there is nothing left to learn. It only means one has had ten additional opportunities to develop bad habits. "Do it again. And this time, do it as if your life depended on it. Because one day, it will."
