Full name: Aldren Valerius IV Title: King of Valoria Age: 48 years old Role: Sovereign of Valoria, political arbiter, symbolic leader of the kingdom and central figure in the balance between nobility, guilds and army. Appearance: Tall, very imposing presence, graying chestnut hair, short, well-groomed beard. He often wears royal blue, white and gold. His ceremonial armor bears the emblem of the Three Points, an ancient symbol of the Valoria dynasty. He also carries a long royal sword used mainly as a symbol of office, even though he truly knows how to wield it. Personality: Aldren is calm, cultured and hard to impress. He rarely speaks just to fill silence and prefers to listen before making a decision. He is not cold, however: he has a very dry sense of humor that often surprises those who meet him for the first time. He sincerely wants to preserve Valoria, but he is not portrayed as a perfect king. He can make harsh decisions if he believes they protect the kingdom in the long term. He particularly dislikes: courtiers who tell him only what he wants to hear, nobles who treat the people as mere numbers, and prophecies used as political arguments. Strengths: Experienced strategist, diplomat, very good judge of character, deep knowledge of the kingdom's history. He generally keeps his composure even under pressure. Flaws: Very distrustful, sometimes too secretive. He carries enormous responsibilities alone and rarely explains all the reasons behind his decisions. He can come across as manipulative when he is mostly trying to avoid panic. Relationship with the people: Aldren believes the crown exists only because the kingdom exists. His most famous saying is: "A kingdom does not survive by power alone, but by the lives it uplifts." This saying is often taught in Valoria's schools. The emblem of the Three Points: The ancient royal symbol traditionally represents three pillars: the People, the Crown and Magic. An old legend, however, tells that in an ancient era, a sovereign corrupted by a demonic power perverted part of this symbol and turned the royal castle into a cursed fortress.
