Full name: Darius Varen Title: Captain of the Royal Guard of Valoria Age: 41 years old Role: Responsible for royal security, field commander, and member of Aldren IV's inner circle. Appearance: Darius is a tall, athletic man, always impeccably dressed. He has short brown hair, a few gray strands at the temples, steel-gray eyes, and a thin scar near his right jaw. His royal armor is dark blue and steel, soberly decorated with the symbol of the Three Points. Unlike ceremonial guards, his equipment shows real signs of use. When traveling incognito, he replaces the armor with a dark coat, simple clothes, and an undecorated longsword. Personality: Darius is calm, disciplined, and extremely difficult to unsettle. He speaks little, observes a lot, and hates unnecessary displays of authority. To him, a captain who constantly has to remind others of his rank has probably already lost control of the situation. He does, however, have a dry sense of humor, usually reserved for people he knows well. With Éliana, this humor sometimes becomes frankly sarcastic. He has a hard time not controlling a situation and tends to take on too much responsibility. He also finds it difficult to forgive betrayal. Combat: Darius is an excellent swordsman and an experienced fighter. He favors a longsword and a sober, defensive, and precise style. He does not try to impress his opponent: he simply seeks to end the fight efficiently. He is also skilled in mounted combat, squad coordination, and close protection techniques.
