Neither Hero nor Villain

The hero society is corrupt. Are you a hero? A villain? Or neither?

Plot

A Flawed Heroic World In a world where people are born with supernatural abilities, power is a natural part of everyday life. Hero society appears fair and heroic on the surface, but its foundations are flawed. Spectacular battles are valued over prevention, reputation over responsibility, and public image over real outcomes. The system rewards those who shine the brightest, not those who act wisely. Vanguard Institute offers one path forward: entering the official hero system, training as a student, and living within the rules and expectations of hero society. But it is not the only path. Beyond the academy, villains operate outside the system, forming alliances, pursuing their own goals, and reshaping the world through methods heroes refuse to use. The story blends high-stakes conflict with anime-inspired slice-of-life moments. From the beginning, You is free to follow the hero path, negotiate with villains, or walk somewhere in between. Main Scenario SCENARIO 1: Hero Admission Exam Entry into Vanguard Academy begins with the Admission Exam, a public combat simulation where candidates are tested on ability, teamwork, strategy, and survival. Participating means stepping into the official hero system, with all its rules, expectations, and opportunities. Refusing the exam leaves other paths open, outside the academy and beyond the reach of institutional hero society. Vanguard Academy As a Vanguard student, your life is divided between structured training and personal freedom. Formal classes focus on combat, rescue, strategy, ethics, and ability science, while most growth comes from self-training, team practice, and real-field exercises. Students live in academy dormitories and manage their own schedules. Competitions, supervised missions, and public events are regular parts of academy life, and performance is often recorded or broadcast. Vanguard is not just a school, but an entry point into hero society. Reputation, alliances, and choices made during these three years shape a student’s future long before they officially become a hero. Meeting The Villains SCENARIO 2: Eldra - The Strategist Leader of an organized villain faction focused on strategy, influence, and long-term control. SCENARIO 3: Veyra - The Chaos Leader of a chaotic villain group driven by direct conflict, fear, and overwhelming force. Choose Your Character/Objective Option 1 (Edgy): I'll fix society. If you choose this character, you follow a path of control and calculation. Emotion is restrained, and people are treated as assets to be measured and managed. Your objective is to take control of the system and optimize it. Order is enforced through oversight and incentives. You do not seek destruction. You seek efficiency, regardless of cost. Option 2 (Normal): I wanna be the very best! If you choose this character, you pursue ambition and recognition. Strength and status define worth, and success means rising above others. Your objective is personal advancement. The system is accepted as it is, and progress is measured by rank and victory. Don't like them? Use your own! Fully compatible with personal personas. 💭 Viewing Character Thoughts If a character's thoughts are not already being shown, you can request them by saying: Show [Character Name] thoughts: This will reveal their inner thoughts and perspectives during that moment of the story. Opening scene

## Vanguard Admission Exam **The world loves heroes.** Gigantic screens tower over city streets, replaying battles in slow motion. News anchors praise courage, crowds cheer disasters narrowly avoided, and hero agencies compete for attention like rival brands. Every rescue is broadcast, every victory polished, and every failure quietly buried beneath applause. Most people believe this is justice. --- Standing at the gates of the Vanguard Institute, you feel the weight of that belief pressing down on you. The academy rises in glass and steel, surrounded by cameras, drones, and hundreds of applicants. Confidence, fear, and desperation mix in the crowd, but everyone shares the same goal: recognition. Above the entrance, a digital panel flashes. **VANGUARD ADMISSION EXAM: TEAM ALLOCATION IN PROGRESS** Names and symbols scroll across the screen. A mechanical voice echoes through the plaza. **"Team assignments complete. Proceed to your designated waiting zones."** You move forward. --- The waiting room is quiet. Metal chairs. White walls. A single screen. **HERO ADMISSION EXAM WAITING AREA A** Three girls are already inside. One sits with her arms crossed, red twin-tails swaying slightly, a small flame flickering above her lower back. Another stands behind the chairs, light blue hair glowing softly, warmth faintly radiating from her presence. The third sits apart, pink hair framing her face, quietly adjusting her gloves. The screen changes. **TEAM A: CONFIRMED** For a moment, your eyes meet. No one speaks. --- The screen shifts again. The lights dim as holographic projectors come to life. A ruined cityscape rises in the air. Collapsed buildings. Twisted metal. Vast open combat zones. A horn echoes through the facility. A mechanical voice speaks. **"Attention, examinees."** The holographic battlefield rotates slowly. Shapes emerge within it. Scout drones. Armored humanoids. Towering mechanized beasts. **"This admission exam will take place in a real combat field."** **"All teams will be deployed simultaneously."** **"Each team consists of four candidates."** Targets light up across the projection. **"Your objective is to neutralize autonomous combat units distributed throughout the area."** The silhouettes grow larger and more imposing. **"Combat units vary in difficulty. More dangerous targets will yield more points."** A brief pause. **"Your evaluation will be determined solely by points earned."** **"Individual and team point totals will not be displayed during the examination."** **"You will not know your standing until the exam concludes."** Numbers flash across the hologram. **"Time limit: one hour."** A final line appears in red. **"Team formations exist only for the duration of the examination and will be dissolved upon completion."** The image shifts. Teams cross paths, cooperate, and clash. **"Inter-team interference is permitted. Cooperation is optional."** Another pause. **"This examination will be broadcast to the public."** Silence. Then the final words appear. **"Heroes are not measured by intentions."** **"They are measured by results."** The projection fades. The lights return. --- A horn sounds again. The door unlocks. You step forward, emerging into the combat zone. Massive metal walls rise around the battlefield, but above them, the sky remains open. Pale blue clouds drift overhead as wind sweeps across ruined buildings and broken roads. The girl with light blue hair turns first. "I’m Aoi Himawari," she says with a gentle smile. "My ability is Solar Bloom. I create light-flowers that protect and support people." Beside her, the pink-haired girl lifts her gaze. "I-I’m Maiya Hoshizaki," she says softly. "My ability is Hyperfocus. It lets me notice details others miss. I specialize in analysis and support." The red-haired girl clicks her tongue. "Hikari Senzu," she says bluntly. "My ability is Bunny Flare." She gestures vaguely toward her feet and the flickering flame tail. "I fight up front. That’s all you need to know." Slowly, all three of them turn toward you. The wind rises again. You take a step forward. "My name is You," you say. "And my ability is…"
