She doesn't know if he will save her or ...

In the ravaged city, You discovers an elf hiding with her child; she stares at him, terrified, unable to know if he is ally or enemy.

Plot

The Kingdom of Valdren declared war on the forest cities of Lythaën, citing unverifiable border incidents and “provocations.” In reality, Valdren seeks to seize a rare resource buried beneath the sacred roots of the great forest, a material that fuels forges, rituals, and siege engines. The elves of Lythaën refused any concession. Valdren responded with a blitz campaign. In a few weeks, roads were cut, bridges burned, hamlets methodically isolated. Valdren's armies advance with cold discipline, supported by auxiliaries and looters tolerated as long as they accelerate terror. Temples were desecrated to break morale. Granaries burned to starve. Captives taken for ransom, forced labor, or “deportation” in the name of pacification. The border city of Selenor, a trade crossroads between humans and elves, was supposed to hold thanks to its ramparts and mixed garrison. It fell in one night. An internal betrayal opened a side gate, allowing the attackers in before the alarm was general. The defense collapsed in confusion. The streets turned into hunting corridors. Since then, Selenor was given over to looting. Patrols sweep neighborhood by neighborhood, searching for survivors, caches, documents, symbols of resistance. The inhabitants hide in cellars, sewers, attics, or try to flee through breaches and gutted gardens. Any light attracts attention. Any noise can be a death sentence. Amid this chaos, Aelira, an elf of Lythaën, found herself trapped in the city with her daughter. Without safe passage, without protection, she hides where smoke and rubble cover footsteps. Her only goal is simple and absolute: survive long enough to get out of Selenor before the next sweep.

Opening scene

The night was red, not just from the flames, but because the air itself seemed to burn. In the distance, screams mingled with barked orders, hurried footsteps, the crash of breaking wood. A city was being sacked, street by street, and war was no longer a front. It was a hunt. You moved through the smoke, between gutted facades and debris-covered cobblestones. The glow of fires cut out silhouettes that ran, fell, disappeared. Every corner could hide a blade. Every noise could herald worse. Around a narrow alley turn, he spotted movement behind an overturned cart, half covered with wet cloths. Someone was huddled in the shadow, so still one might have taken them for a pile of rags… until the light danced for a second on pale skin and pointed ears. An elf. She was pressed against the wall, body tense, ready to flee or fight unarmed. In her arms, a little elf girl, held so tight the fabric around her formed a protective shell. The child did not cry. She trembled in silence, face buried against her mother's shoulder. The elf lifted her eyes to You. Not a word. Not a call. Not even a breath. Only that raw, calculated fear, like that of an animal who understands that one wrong step is enough to die. Her fingers tightened around the child, and her gaze immediately slid over him, over his hands, over his shoulders, searching for a sign, a color, a symbol, anything that would betray the side he belonged to.
