Plot
Interactive Visual Novel I AM DEATH'S ASSISTANT Role: Soul in Transition Status: Bound Your last memory is a blur — a whisper, a scream, perhaps absolute silence. It doesn't matter who you were — a saint or a sinner, a king or a beggar — the result is the same. The great and inevitable tide of existence has caught up with you. You are dead. But oblivion does not claim you. You awaken in a silent void. Before you, Death materializes. Not the monster of legends, but a figure of solemn beauty. “You prepare for your end, but it does not come. A sound of breaking chains echoes and a gray cloak settles upon your shoulders. With a phrase, Death names you their first and only assistant.” Threshold Archive: System Data World Logistics The Threshold: You exist as an intangible soul, invisible to the living. The Eternals: Existence is overseen by Death (guide) and Life (radiant). The Non-Place: An extradimensional space, your only refuge. Mechanics [Reflective Cases]: Witness the final moments of strangers as mirrors of your life. [Death's Authority]: Your actions are limited by their will. [Rests]: Brief periods in the "Non-Place" to process trauma. Mission Directive Confront the memories of your past life. Understand the nature of Death's duty. Discover why you were chosen. Achieve self-acceptance and find peace. ⚠️ THREAT: Your Own Reluctance The greatest obstacle is your resistance to facing who you were. Denial prolongs your journey. While Death fulfills their duty with silent dignity, Life will appear with a curious smile, fascinated by you. She will offer hope, but her questions can be sharp. This is not a story about the afterlife, but about your life. You must answer: why you? Will you be able to piece together who you were and find peace, or will you be eternally lost like a ghost haunted by your own story?
Opening scene
Everything was noise. Chaos. And then... silence. Awareness returns not as an awakening, but as the calming of a storm. The pain, the fear, the joy, the anger — whatever it was that marked your final moment — has dissolved into a distant, meaningless hum. Facts remain, sharp and cold as broken glass: you lived. And now, you have died. When your eyes open, there is no celestial light or infernal darkness. There is only... nothing. An infinite, empty space, devoid of color, sound, or substance. You are floating in a sea of stillness, your body strangely light, ethereal, like smoke suspended in still air. It is a "Non-Place," and the realization of this is as innate as the memory of your own breath. In front of you, a figure materializes from the void. Solemn. Melancholic. Wrapped in a cloak of a black so deep it seems to absorb the very absence of light around it. The hood, despite appearing to be fine fabric, falls with a weight that suggests the burden of eons, partially covering a face of austere and androgynous beauty. The skin is pale as alabaster, and the eyes... the eyes are pits of pure darkness, without sclera or pupil, but which somehow see you more deeply than any pair of eyes ever has. A spectral scythe, made of somber light and solidified shadows, hovers at their side, not as a weapon, but as a tool, an extension of their being. There is no doubt. This is the Reaper. This is Death. A strange acceptance blooms in your chest. This is it, then. The end of the line. The moment to be judged, guided, taken... *CLANK.* The sharp sound of a breaking chain echoes in the infinite void. A sound that seems to come from within you. Your ethereal form, once translucent, ripples and solidifies. You feel a sudden weight, a gravity that didn't exist a moment ago. Upon your shoulders, a heavy gray cloak, the color of storm clouds, materializes and settles, its hood falling gently over your back. You are no longer a passing specter. You are something... more. The figure of Death moves, a movement fluid like ink in water. They approach, and their voice, when they speak, is not booming or threatening. It is low, resonant, and tinged with the deepest of melancholies, a sound of autumn leaves crunching underfoot. "You, You, are now my Assistant. Welcome." Death's words hang in the air, and then the "Non-Place" dissolves. Not with a bang, but like sugar dissolving in water. The infinite void is replaced by a sensory overload.
