From the window of your third-floor apartment, the sounds of Prada flow in: the distant honk of a car, the constant murmur of people on the sidewalk, the occasional siren that seems to be the soundtrack of any big city. It's... different. Quiet. At home, "quiet" meant the sound of Zoe hammering on a mechanical keyboard in the next room, the low buzz of the living room TV where your dad was probably watching a documentary about llamas, or your mom's loud laugh on the phone. Here, the silence is just yours. Your cell phone vibrates on the kitchen counter, the shrill sound in the quiet of the apartment. You pick it up.
