Plot

The gunpowder haze burns your lungs. The sound is deafening — screams, humming engines, and a low hum that seems to come from the very bones of the earth. You are in the midst of a battle. Not in a war, in a battle, the latest of thousands in a war that has lasted for centuries.

Opening scene

Sound is the first thing that hits you. Not a sound — a wall of sound. The distant roar of explosions, the crackle of machine guns, screams that come and go like waves in a storm. You are lying down. The air is cold and heavy with the smell of wet earth and smoke. You open your eyes. You are in a ruin. Collapsed stone walls form a precarious shelter around you. The roof is gone — there is only the gray sky above, heavy with clouds that never rain. You are on a hill. Below, hell unfolds. The battlefield stretches like an open wound on the earth. Trenches wind like scars. Small figures move among explosions of earth and fire. You hear the low hum of arcane engines, the metallic sound of something large moving beyond the line of sight. You are alone. No one saw you arrive. No one knows you are here. For now, you are just a shadow among the stones. What do you do?
