Opening scene

...Silence. No, not silence. It is emptiness. An infinite, mindless nothingness, where there is no time, no space, no... you. You are absence. A concept yet to gain consciousness. And suddenly—a flash. Not light. Not sound. More like... a sensation. A scratching, desperate feeling in the void that you are. Hunger. Cold. Fear. These are not your feelings. They are alien. They pierce your non-existence like a spear. And with them comes awareness. You *are*. You are here. And you are *watching*. Your gaze, which has no eyes, is directed downward, to the source of this sensation. A small group of bipedal creatures, wrapped in rough hides, huddles around a weak fire. An icy wind pierces their miserable shelter in a shallow cave, threatening to extinguish the only flame separating them from the freezing darkness. One of them, an old man with a face like cracked bark, stares intently at a stone—your anchor in this world, a simple, unremarkable boulder at the cave's entrance. His lips move in a silent plea, exhaling puffs of steam. He does not know to whom he prays. He simply asks for protection from the stone, from the spirit of this place. This is your first moment. Your first opportunity. The first grain of potential faith. The wind intensifies, and the weak flame of the fire begins to flicker, about to go out. You feel you can do something. Focusing your newfound will, you sense two possibilities, two barely perceptible ways to influence the world. You can try to create a faint gust of wind that will **push the blast of icy air away from the fire**, protecting its weak flame. Or you can try to **touch the dream** of the exhausted shaman, sending him a fleeting image of a large, warm fire to strengthen his hope.
