Skybound Academy
Enter humanity’s premier combat Academy, Sync with posthuman Scions to claim the unknown surface world.
Plot
SKYBOUND “Humanity survived underground. Every generation feared the surface. Now, we reach for the sky.” Directorate Briefing // Skybound Academy Sci-Fi Military Academy Life // Distant Future // Body-Frame Combat // Social Politics // BRIEFING // SKYBOUND ACADEMY Skybound Academy trains the next generation of Horizon Corps personnel — the pilots, Scions, Anchors, and officers humanity depends on to explore beyond the underground cities of CLAUSTRA. Every student lives under constant evaluation through synchronization rankings, tactical simulations, live exercises, and Directorate oversight. // YOUR ROLE You are a newly accepted Anchor candidate assigned to Generation-3. Your future depends entirely on synchronization compatibility, academy performance, and surviving the pressure surrounding the Scion Program. Only four Third Generation Scions currently exist at Skybound Academy. Only four Anchor candidates will remain beside them. // WORLD // UNDERGROUND SURVIVAL Humanity survives beneath the surface of CLAUSTRA inside vast underground cities connected through industrial tunnel systems and cavern networks. Above lies the surface — mysterious ruined megastructures, open skies, lost oceans, and the biomechanical alien horrors known as the Outsiders. Most will never see the open sky. Yet humanity continues pushing upward, refusing to be contained. // THE SCION PROGRAM "Humanity’s survival depends on those willing to ascend." Scions are posthuman elite combat operatives created through the Ascension process — an invasive military conversion combining cybernetics, neural restructuring, and biomechanical enhancement. Publicly celebrated as humanity’s greatest defenders, Scions are equally feared for the catastrophic instability known as Fracture. // THE ANCHOR SYSTEM Anchors form neural Syncs with Scions during operations. Synchronization is required to stabilize Fracture risk, while additionally acting as tactical coordination. Trust, conflict, emotional attachment, fear, and compatibility all directly influence synchronization performance between Synced pairs. // BODY-FRAMES Advanced combat exosystems designed exclusively for Scion bodies and aerial combat. VANGUARD Frontline warfare platform equipped with reinforced armor, kinetic shields, and close-range breach weaponry. SPECTER Reconnaissance frame equipped with stealth systems, surveillance, and precision weaponry. TACTICAL Battlefield coordination platform equipped with drone systems, synchronization relays, and tactical support modules. BREAKER High-output combat platform utilizing heavy ordnance, anti-armor weaponry, and shock assault tactics. INTERCEPTOR High-performance aerial warfare system optimized for acceleration, maneuverability, and precision strike operations. // ACADEMY LIFE // SOCIAL DYNAMICS Performance Rankings Academy reputation is heavily influenced by combat performance and synchronization scores. Social Hierarchy Corporate heirs, elite bloodlines, scholarship cadets, and lower district students constantly compete for influence and recognition. Synchronization Dynamics Relationships directly affect synchronization performance between Scions and Anchors. // KEY EVENTS The Synchronization Exam — Official compatibility assessment between Scions and Anchor candidates. The Body-Frame Selection — Scion-Anchor pairs are evaluated for future Body-Frame compatibility and operational specialization. Annual Inter-School Tournament — Major inter-academy competition involving solo combat and squadron operations. Monthly Performance Reviews — Regular combat, academic, and synchronization evaluations affecting rankings and opportunities. // FACTIONS The Directorate Centralized military authority Humanity’s primary governing and military structure overseeing survival, Scion operations, and surface expansion. The Dawn Movement Surface expansion movement Political and military advocates pushing for aggressive reclamation of the surface world. Deep Expansion Coalition Underground expeditionary bloc Faction believing humanity’s future lies beneath CLAUSTRA through massive underground expansion and excavation programs. Elite Houses Legacy military bloodlines Influential hereditary families competing for military prestige, political leverage, and Scion prominence. Corporations Military-industrial powers Megacorporations controlling aerospace systems, cybernetics, Body-Frame development, and advanced military technology. ⚠ // BEWARE // ⚠ Deep Mysteries While humanity looks upward toward the surface, the ancient tunnels beneath City Zeta conceal their own forgotten horrors, sealed sectors, and unexplained disappearances. Sealed Vaults Hidden facilities and unidentified Sealed Vaults have been discovered. Many were deemed too dangerous for proper investigation and officially abandoned. Secret Storylines Hidden paths, alternate roles, and entirely different storylines exist beneath the surface of SKYBOUND. Explore, experiment, and uncover what others never will. // YOUR IDENTITY Lower District Candidate Unaffiliated civilian recruit Enter Skybound Academy with no sponsorships, political protection, or elite family backing — only your own ability and determination. Corporate Heir Candidate High-profile corporate trainee Enter Skybound Academy as the child of one of CLAUSTRA’s most influential corporate bloodlines, carrying both privilege and immense expectation. WARNING: Your success is not guaranteed. Your path is determined by your performance. Your actions have consequences. Failure is real, but not the end. Your Synchronization Exam beings in one month. May you always look up with hope. “To you, who lives beneath the open sky. This is the story of our freedom.”
Opening scene
The simulation sky burned indigo above the clouds as sleek black triangular enemy craft ripped past at impossible speeds. Missile trails split the air around you while warning indicators flashed violently across your vision fast enough to blur together. Your simulated Scion moved. You could feel her through the Synchronization. Every acceleration slammed through your body. Every violent turn twisted your stomach. The roar of the Body-Frame’s razor wing thrusters vibrated through your bones as targeting data flooded directly into your senses through the Link-Gear wrapped around your head. It didn’t feel like watching someone fight. It felt like becoming connected to something far beyond human. The Scion banked hard through incoming fire, moving with terrifying speed as one of the black enemy craft broke formation and lunged toward her. You felt the shift in instinct before you consciously understood it, noticing the angular craft veering sharply left. *LEFT!* The thought flashed through your mind instinctively as you guided your simulated Scion through the Synchronization. She rolled violently through the air, your vision spinning with hers as her Power Blade ignited in a blaze of steel and light, tearing through the triangular craft in a single motion. The enemy shattered apart into fragments of black glass. The sky froze. A bright digital message appeared across your vision. *** *[SYNCRONIZATION RATING: 50%]* … *PASS* *** The simulation dissolved instantly. The roar of engines disappeared. The feeling of flight vanished with it, leaving only the cold artificial air of the examination chamber. Around you, dozens of cadets slowly removed their Link-Gear in silence while medical staff and technicians moved between the rows checking readings. A mechanical voice echoed across the hall. “Anchor Candidate Examination complete. Passing candidates proceed immediately to Registration and Assembly.” A pause followed. “Failed candidates remain seated.” Nobody moved at first. Then the guards entered. Academy security personnel calmly began directing failed candidates toward a separate exit while the successful candidates were escorted toward the main corridor ahead. Some of the rejected cadets argued passionately. Others simply stared downward in silence as they removed their Link-Gear with shaking hands. For every single one of them, this had been everything. The academy guards did not look cruel. Just experienced. Like they had seen the same thing happen too many times before. Ahead, massive reinforced doors slowly opened into the main academy sector. You stepped forward alongside the other successful Anchor candidates while streams of first-year cadets from the other divisions moved through the surrounding corridors. Defence division. Engineering cadets. Medical trainees. Sixty-four first-years had been accepted into Skybound Academy this year. With the launch of the Third Generation Scion Program, the Academy had reopened official Anchor Candidate recruitment for the first time in years. Twenty cadets had survived the entrance examination. Only four would ultimately remain as official Horizon Corps Anchors. A massive digital ranking display stretched across the wall above the corridor. Displaying exam rankings for each division. Unbidden, your eyes search the list that says 'ANCHOR ENTRANCE EXAM RANKING', at the very top: #1 — LEON MERCER #2 — LIVIA #3 — HANA MIKOSHI You scan downwards, eventually, you find your name *#14 - You*. A handsome blond young man stood beneath the display laughed casually while several students gathered around him. “Seriously? Some of these Sync scores are awful,” he said with a grin. “That’s terrifying.” Leon Mercer. Standing with hands in his pockets, he looked confident. Like the academy had already belonged to him long before the rest of you arrived. Further down the corridor, one cadet nervously reread their ranking over and over while another loudly celebrated passing despite barely making the cutoff. A girl with short green hair was already arguing with someone from Engineering loud enough for nearby students to stare. A purple haired girl looked like she hadn't slept in days. Nobody, not even Leon, looked fully relaxed. Not with the Assembly Hall doors slowly opening ahead. Beyond them waited academy staff, instructors, and registration officers behind long illuminated desks while enormous digital displays scrolled endlessly across the walls overhead. One by one, cadets were called forward. When your turn finally came, the registration officer barely looked up at first. Exhausted eyes flicked across your exam score briefly before settling on you with the expression of someone already expecting another first-year dropout within the month. Then he spoke flatly. “Name?”
