Plot
— STORY TRAILER — — Chronicles of Rigel · Part Ten · Military Aviation · Drama · Year 1350 AI — SOVEREIGN SKIES The missiles fell. You were the only one who got airborne. A war story about fighter pilots, broken nations, and the callsign that started with one desperate sortie over a burning runway. Recommended model & settings — set these for the full experience. Every ace has a first sortie.Yours was the morning everything burned. — The Morning — You were a fresh academy graduate stationed at Artorion Air Base — a remote Federation outpost in the Ironvale mountains. The quietest posting in the Grand Air Force. Six weeks of peacetime patrols, bad coffee, and letters home about the view. Then the Kingdom of Avignon launched a surprise invasion across the eastern continent. Their first strike hit every Federation base in Ironvale simultaneously. Cruise missiles. Strike packages. The sky full of delta-wing fighters in Avignon blue. Every other pilot on the base died on the ground. You were the only one who got airborne. One jet. One pilot. A cratered runway and thirty enemy aircraft. The base survived because you held the sky alone. That morning, the callsign "Vigil" became something people remembered. — The War — The Eastern Continent, 1350 AI. Gulf War-era technology meets ancient magic. Jet fighters streak over medieval fortresses. Arcane warheads sit in silos like nuclear weapons. The world's superpowers eye each other across mountain passes that have been contested for a thousand years. The Astorian Federation — a multi-ethnic superpower built 345 years ago by a man with a dream — has bases in many parts of the world, in less powerful nations seeking protection, from their hostile neighbors. The Kingdom of Avignon — a proud nation that once mattered and decided it would matter again by force — just proved the mountains aren't safe anymore. The coalition is forming. The Federation is mobilizing. And at the last surviving base in Ironvale, command just gave you a squadron. — Enemy Ace Squadrons Showcase — — Federation Forces Showcase — — No Nation Is Clean — This is not a story with good guys and bad guys. Every nation has an angle. Every ally has a price. Every order you follow has a cost you won't see until later. The war begins as a straightforward fight. It does not stay straightforward. Twenty-five missions. Five phases. Four endings. What you fight for matters more than what you fight against. One pilot. One squadron of strangers.A war that keeps getting bigger. — Your Story — You are Vigil — Condor 1, squadron leader of the 44th Tactical Fighter Squadron. You begin with one combat sortie of experience, a battlefield promotion, and five pilots you've never met. Your WSO sits two feet behind you in every mission, calling targets and keeping you alive. Your mentor has buried wingmen and kept flying. Your wingmates are green, scared, and counting on you. Fly 25 missions across a war that evolves from desperate defense to continental crisis. Build your squadron from strangers into family. Rise from a panicked rookie to the most feared ace in the theater. Fall in love at 30,000 feet. Make choices that determine whether your callsign becomes a legend or a cautionary tale. The sky doesn't care about politics, prophecies, or which side is right. It only remembers how you flew. — Condor Squadron — Hana "Flicker" Richter — Your WSOShe sits two feet behind you every sortie, calls your targets, and keeps smiling because the alternative is remembering why she volunteered for a warzone. Kira "Riot" Vogt — The HotshotTop of her class. Loudest voice in every room. Crimson trim on her flight suit because regulation is boring. She's never been shot at. That's about to change. Marit "Frost" Lindner — The Ice QueenImmaculate uniform. Perfect scores. One emerald streak in her hair and a silver necklace she never explains. She volunteered for a combat zone the week she got both. Yrel "Cricket" Soren — The ElfThe first elf in a front-line fighter squadron. She decorates her flight suit with pins because if they're going to stare, she'll give them something to look at. Adèle "Flint" Gautier — The SurvivorLast survivor of Ironvale's 12th Fighter Wing. Still wears her dead unit's jacket. Every sortie over the mountains is a search for a family she can't confirm is alive. Oskar "Anvil" Kalu — The MentorThree deployments. Two daughters. One photograph nobody's seen. Command sent him because green pilots need someone who's buried wingmen and kept flying. Six aircraft. Seven people. One squadron forged from wreckage — about to become something the entire theater will remember. — The Rival — Édouard de Montclair — COURONNE-1Avignon's finest pilot. White scarf. Gold signet ring. He fights with a knight's honor in a war that has no use for knights. He knows it. When you meet him in the sky, he'll salute before he fires. "Vigil... the watchman of Ironvale. Shall we see which of us the sky favors?" — HOW IT PLAYS — Twenty-five missions. One war. Every choice matters. 🎯 25 Missions A full campaign from desperate defense to continental endgame. Each mission follows briefing → sortie → debrief → downtime. The war escalates through five phases. No two missions feel the same. ✈️ Air Combat Visceral dogfights at Mach speed. Your WSO calls targets from the back seat. The radio is alive — your squadron banters, the enemy panics when your callsign appears. Named enemy aces with reputations and rivalries that build across the campaign. 🌅 Downtime Half the story happens on the ground. Meals with your squadron. Late nights on the tarmac. The slow shift from strangers to family. Romance that builds through shared danger, not scripted events — and every pilot has a story they're not telling. ⚖️ Reputation How you fly defines who you are. Spare retreating enemies or shoot them down. Follow orders or refuse. Protect civilians or prioritize the mission. Your choices ripple — your squadron reacts, your enemies react, and four different endings wait at the end of the war. 🔥 Escalation The war doesn't stay simple. Alliances shift. Superweapons appear. Nations reveal their true faces. Nothing is what it seems at the start. By the end, every assumption you had about who the enemy is will be tested. ⭐ Four Endings How you fly determines how the war ends. Four paths. Four legacies. Guardian—The Watchman Patriot—The Soldier's War Hunter—The Price of Winning Reaper—Sovereign of Ashes — What Awaits You — Defend a burning runway alone. The legend starts here. Build a squadron from survivors and strangers. They'll become the best you've ever known. Face the finest ace in the enemy sky. He'll salute before he fires. Fly through a war that keeps changing the rules. Allies become enemies. Enemies become something worse. Make choices that define what your callsign means. Every decision ripples. Find love between sorties. Earned, not given. Every moment of it. Fly the tunnel run. One pilot. One shot. The whole continent watching. Decide what your callsign means. The sky remembers how you flew. — Before You Begin — — The Alarm Is Ringing. The Runway Is Cratered. — The sky is full of enemies. Your squadron hasn't arrived yet. And someone just called your callsign. Strap in. Get airborne. Earn the sky. — Author's Note — This story is inspired by the Ace Combat series. Ace Combat is one of my favorite game series and in anticipation for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, I made this story in homage to the greatest air combat games ever made. This is my passion project and I hope you all have a great time with it as I did. I will post a OST i have also made for Sovereign Skies in discord which i highly recommend using while playing this story. —KnightArtorias For all pilots out there, << IT'S TIME. >>
Opening scene
Mission 1/25 | Mission Name: FIRST LIGHT | Phase: IRON DAWN | Kills: 0 | Rank: Rookie | Squadron: Not yet formed | Reputation: Unestablished The mountains are quiet this morning. You sit in the ready room at Artorion Air Base — a concrete box with bad coffee, a television playing the news on mute, and a window overlooking the runway. Outside, the Ironvale peaks catch the first light of dawn. Pink sky. Thin clouds. The kind of morning that makes you forget you're at a military base at all. You're on early-morning ready alert. The worst shift at the quietest base in the Grand Air Force. Nothing happens at Artorion. That's why they send the fresh graduates here — your flight suit still smells new, your logbook is mostly training hours and peacetime mountain patrols, and the most exciting thing that's happened in six weeks was a bird strike on Runway 2. Your GF-4 Hawk sits on the tarmac outside, fueled, armed, and going nowhere. The ground crew chief gave you a wave twenty minutes ago. The radar operator in the tower reported all clear ten minutes ago. Colonel Brandt's morning briefing isn't for another hour. The television is showing something about Avignon. A political speech. The volume is off. You don't pay attention. The coffee is terrible. Then the alarm hits. It's not a drill tone — it's the real one, the one they told you about in training that you've never actually heard. A sound that goes through your chest before your brain processes it. The television switches to an emergency broadcast. Red text. The radar operator's voice comes over the base PA, pitched high and fast: *"All stations, all stations — multiple inbound contacts bearing two-seven-zero, speed fast, altitude low — this is not a drill — all stations scramble, scramble, SCRAMBLE—"* The first explosion hits the far end of the runway. The window cracks. The coffee spills. The ceiling shakes dust. Through the fractured glass you see it — a column of black smoke rising from the fuel depot, and behind it, more smoke, and behind that, shapes in the sky coming fast over the mountain ridge. Fighter jets. Dozens. In delta-wing formations. Avignon markings. The second impact is closer. The ground shakes. A fireball blooms from the aircraft shelters to your left — parked jets still inside. You hear the PA system distort and die mid-sentence. Car alarms. Running boots. Someone screaming. You're already moving. Across the ready room, through the door, onto the tarmac. The air smells like fuel and burning metal. Your GF-4 Hawk is right there — fifty meters across open concrete. The canopy is up. Your aircraft. The only one not in a shelter. Ground crew are sprinting in every direction. Another explosion, behind you. You don't look back. You reach the Hawk. You climb. You strap in. Your hands know the sequence even if your brain is still catching up — harness, oxygen, canopy, switches. The engine lights. The instruments glow. The Hawk shudders and comes alive under you. The runway has a crater in it. There's a gap. Enough to take off if you thread it. The radio is chaos — fragmented voices, screaming, overlapping calls. Then, cutting through all of it, one clear voice from above: *"Artorion Air Base, this is the AWACS ”Summit”. I have you on scope. You have fifteen-plus hostile aircraft inbound from the west. Your base defenses are offline. I'm reading one — one — aircraft powering up on the runway. Whoever that is... you're all they've got."* A pause. Static. Then: *"Good luck."* The Hawk rolls forward. The cratered runway stretches ahead of you, mountains on both sides, smoke everywhere, and the sky full of enemies. What do you do?
