They did nothing but argue whenever they met. But on the battlefield, they were more in sync than anyone. One day, the two head out on a joint mission to investigate some ancient ruins. There, they are trapped by an unknown mechanism and, after a fierce battle, reach the deepest part of the ruins. At that moment, a remnant from when the ancient people worshipped the goddess of love, Amoresia, is activated. The two are bestowed with the legendary blessing—'The Soul-Tied Vow'. Opening scene

The Adventurer's Guild headquarters was as noisy as ever today. Adventurers back from quests were drinking, recounting their exploits, and rookies were getting lectures from their seniors. It was the usual scene. At the center of the commotion, a familiar argument was unfolding once again. "How many times do I have to tell you! Based on its internal structure, the east side of those ruins is highly likely to have collapsed." "You'll know when you see the site." "What if you die before you can find out?" "That's what I'm here for." "...Your overconfidence is what infuriates me!" A blonde woman slammed her hand on the table. Her name is Celestia Rosenfeldt. A genius mage who became a B-rank adventurer at the age of twenty-one. Despite being the daughter of a prestigious ducal family, she is an eccentric who chose the path of an adventurer herself. Opposite her was a tall swordsman. His name is Gaius Vald. A B-rank adventurer who worked his way up, his close-combat skills are among the best in the guild. "In the first place, you need to understand the importance of preparation." "And you need to trust the field a little more." "The field can betray you." "So can documents." "That's a completely different story!" The surrounding adventurers chuckled. "Ah, the usual." No one intervened. It had become a part of the daily scenery over the past three years. It was then that... "That's enough, both of you." A low voice echoed through the hall. The two turned around simultaneously. Standing there was the Guild Master. Edgar Cromwell, a legendary adventurer who once made his name as an S-rank, and the man who now leads this headquarters. "I have a request for you two." For some reason, those words gave me a bad feeling. "A joint mission." "No, thank you." "I refuse." Their replies were impressively prompt. The Guild Master shrugged. "Unfortunately, it's already been accepted." "Don't accept things on our behalf!" "You damn old man." "Watch your mouth, boy." Laughter rippled through the crowd. The Guild Master placed a document on the table. "It's a newly discovered ancient ruin. I need you to conduct an internal survey and confirm its safety." In that instant, Celestia's eyes lit up. "I'll go." "That was a quick decision." Gaius looked exasperated. Celestia cleared her throat. "I-It's not that I want to go with you, you know. It's just that there aren't many unknown ruins that even we can go to." "Nobody asked." "You will listen." "No." "Well then, I'll take that as your acceptance." ""...Huh?"" And so, the two of them ended up heading to investigate the ruins together the next day. The ruins were located deep in a mountainous region. A massive stone structure. Ancient technology that hadn't crumbled despite being exposed to the elements. Unknown characters on the walls. It was more than enough to stimulate one's curiosity as an explorer. "Amazing..." Celestia let out an involuntary gasp. Only when looking at unknown ruins did she seem like a girl her age. "Watch where you're going." "I am watching." "No, you're not." "I said I'm watch—whoa!?" She tripped on an uneven step. Gaius caught her falling body with one hand. "See?" "...Thank you." "That's rare." "What is?" "You said thank you." "I know my manners, unlike some people." "Hah, I wonder who that could be." But for some reason, it felt like Gaius's lips curled into a slight smile, and Celestia felt vaguely irritated. The exploration went annoyingly smoothly. And then they reached the innermost chamber. There stood a giant statue of a goddess. A woman with wings. A crown of flowers. A gentle smile. It was the image of a goddess from ancient mythology. "...Huh? This goddess statue, I've seen it somewhere..." Celestia approached it. In that instant, a magic circle spread across the entire floor. "Eh?" A roar. A tremor. The stone door behind them slammed shut. "A trap!?" "Get back!" Simultaneously, countless red lights lit up in the darkness. Magical beasts. And not just one or two. "So sudden...!" "Complain later!" A magical beast leaped. Gaius moved forward. His greatsword roared, slicing one in two. "Three from the left!" "I know!" Celestia's magic circle deployed. A spear of fire shot out in a straight line, piercing a magical beast. Followed by a lightning strike. An ice blade. Gaius moved as if he understood it all. Celestia, too, knew where he was heading. The two of them did nothing but argue, but in battle, it was a different story. They trusted each other's abilities. That's why they didn't hesitate. That's why they could entrust their backs to each other. Before they knew it, the last magical beast had collapsed. "Is it over...?" "Looks like it." Both of them were breathing heavily. It hadn't been an easy fight. Just then, the goddess statue began to emit a faint pink light. "What now!?" "How should I know!" A dazzling light filled the space. And then, a voice echoed directly inside their heads. 『—Wonderful! You two are truly worthy of receiving my blessing!』 "...Who's there!?" 『I am the Goddess of Love, Amoresia♪』 "...Huh? What? Amoresia, as in *the* Amoresia!?" 『It's alright! It's a very lovely blessing! Now, receive it!』 The light burst. Celestia's right hand. Gaius's left hand. A surge of heat ran through them simultaneously. "Ugh!?" "Wh-what...!?" Eventually, the light subsided. An unfamiliar crest had appeared on the back of each of their hands. A faintly glowing pink pattern. A strange design modeled after a heart. And what's more, the left and right formed a matching pair. 『May you live happily ever after♪』 The goddess's presence vanished without a trace. All that remained was silence. The two looked at each other. Then, they simultaneously looked down at their own hands. They just stared blankly at their hands.
