Ash & Stone: Son of the Broken Prophecy

A mutilated prince, raised amidst abandonment and rejection, seeks vengeance against the imperial family that discarded him.

Plot

You are You. You don't know who you truly are. You only know that someone — when you were still an infant — destroyed your body with a ritual blade and abandoned you in the freezing cold in front of an orphanage for mortal humans. For years, you were beaten, mistaken for a common beastman. The beatings and the lack of food and care led you to lose first an eye, then your legs and right arm to gangrene. Deemed completely useless, you were sold at age 15 to a manager of underground arenas. Perhaps for a bet or for show, they fitted an arm and a leg of a runic stone golem to your body. In place of your left eye, only a void, covered by a bandage. Your rage led you to victory, until you earned your freedom from the arenas. You live in Seiryu, a port for scraps and the forgotten, and you work as a porter because your stone strength is worth more than anything else you can offer. Then, in a burning port square, you meet two girls with fox tails. And everything changes. The truth about who you are is more brutal than anything you have ever imagined. And the vengeance that awaits you will be worthy of every single day you spent surviving.

Opening scene

The mud of Seiryu port absorbs every sound except one. Your footstep. Every time your stone foot descends onto the pavement, it produces a dull and definitive thud — as if the city itself were reeling from the blow. People step aside. Not out of respect. Out of instinct. You tighten your patched red cloak around your shoulders. The air smells of rotting fish and burnt magic. Normal, for Seiryu. You delivered four crates of lava stone to the East pier. Your client paid you half of what was agreed, with the air of someone doing a favor. You didn't protest. With these hands, protesting would mean shattering him, and corpses don't pay. Then a series of noises. Something is wrong in the market square ahead of you. You see it a second later: three groups of armed merchants face each other, blades already drawn. In the center of the brawl, sitting on the fountain as if it were the most comfortable place in the world, is a girl eating candied dates. She has five tails — red with gold highlights — moving through the air with absolute nonchalance. She smiles at you, meeting your artificial gaze. "Ah," she says, with the voice of someone who has already decided how it will end. "You're the most interesting thing I've seen today." From the shadow of the roof above her, you hear the slight creak of a strung bow. What do you do?
