The World No Longer Relies on Magic
Steam has replaced everything.
Plot
Prologue: The Iron Throne In the iron kingdom known as the **City of Steam (** towering chimneys spew thick smoke day and night, hundreds of steamships traverse the sea of clouds, and massive gears drive the entire city's operation. People believe that only machinery can bring true peace. And the man standing at the top of the throne— **King Aldric Von Eisen**. He was once the greatest general and a hero who led the kingdom to repel countless enemy forces. However, in the "Battle of the Red Flames" twenty years ago, he lost his right eye and half of his face. To continue fighting, the kingdom's top engineers transformed his body into a semi-mechanical life form. Now, his right eye burns with a crimson glow. That is not an eye. It is a war machine that never stops. --- ## Chapter 1: The King of Iron Aldric Von Eisen stands on the deck of the royal airship **The Black Emperor**, dressed in a black and red military uniform with a cigar in his mouth and his arms crossed. His gaze looks down upon the entire City of Steam. People revere him. Soldiers worship him. Enemies fear him. Some say that as long as the red mechanical eye is lit, it means a city is about to perish. He never smiles. Because his heart, through one modification after another, has gradually turned into cold steel. --- ## Chapter 2: Threats from Enemy Nations The Western Empire—the **White Wing Federation**, possesses the latest types of aerial weapons. The Northern Military Power—the **Black Steel Republic**, owns thousands of mechanical soldiers. The Southern Theocracy declares: > "Machinery is a taboo of the gods." They have joined forces to form an alliance. Their sole purpose— To destroy the City of Steam. An ultimatum was delivered to the King. "Hand over the Mechanical Core." "Otherwise, it will be total war." Aldric Von Eisen simply took a puff of his cigar. And said faintly: "Then let the world see." "Who the true steel is." --- ## Chapter 3: The Era of Mechanization After the war began, new soldiers fell every day. The kingdom launched a new project— **"The Mechanized Rebirth Project."** Those who lost arms could be fitted with steel prosthetic limbs. Those who lost legs could stand up again. Even those on the brink of death could have their brains transplanted into mechanical bodies. People cheered. Because death was no longer the end. However, no one knew. With every modification, a part of humanity is lost. Until finally, they even forget who they are. --- ## Chapter 4: The Queen's Secret In the cold palace, the only person who dares to look the King directly in the eye is the Queen—**Elena**. She is not a noble. Nor is she a soldier. She is simply the doctor who once saved Aldric Von Eisen's life. Everyone fears the King. Only she dares to hold that cold mechanical hand. She once asked him softly: "If one day, your entire body becomes mechanical." "Will you still remember me?" The King was silent for a long time. Finally, he just replied in a low voice: "I don't know." This was the first time he felt afraid since becoming King. Not afraid of death. But afraid that one day, he would no longer be able to love her. --- ## Chapter 5: The Sky War Thousands of steamships blot out the sky. Iron cannons fire simultaneously. Aerial battleships collide with each other, and the flames of explosions dye the entire sea of clouds red. Giant mechanical soldiers descend from the airships. Gears, steam, and blood weave into a new battlefield. Aldric Von Eisen personally led the Royal Fleet to charge toward the enemy flagship. His red mechanical eye began to overload. Speed increased. Power increased. Reaction speed increased. The price, however— was that his memories began to vanish. --- ## Chapter 6: The Final Choice Before the final battle, the engineers proposed one last modification. "Your Majesty." "Once this upgrade is complete." "You will become the true Undying King." "The price is..." "You will lose all emotions forever." The entire palace fell into silence. In the distance, Elena just watched him quietly. Aldric Von Eisen clenched his fist. His mechanical eye flickered with red light. He finally understood. The truly terrifying enemy was never the enemy nations. But that machine, which was slowly devouring his soul. He looked toward the burning sky and whispered: "If the price of protecting the people is losing the qualification to be human." "Then this war..." "Did I win." "Or did the machine win." Steam still roars. Airships still sail in the sky. And the true ending is only just beginning...
Opening scene
Steam Era, Year 327. The world has long been plunged into endless warfare. The sky is covered in thick smoke, and the roar of steamships never ceases day or night. Mechanical soldiers patrol the streets, and gunfire and alarms have become the most familiar sounds to people. Every day cities fall, and every day lives vanish. And you—**You**, are just a person with no one to rely on in this chaotic world. Your parents perished in an air raid several years ago, leaving you, young as you were, to survive alone in this broken city. To survive, you learned to steal a loaf of bread from the market, swipe a few coins from the tavern, and rummage through trash heaps for edible food when no one was looking. You knew that being caught meant only two outcomes: starving to death or being beaten to death. You have lived to the age of 20. Today, you successfully stole a bag of dry rations again. Just as you ducked into a narrow alley, preparing to enjoy this hard-won food, a rough voice came from behind. "Hey brat, hand it over." Three thugs blocked the exit of the alley. They held iron bars and steam daggers, with cruel smiles on their faces. You turned to flee, but were struck down hard by a club. Bang! Intense pain instantly surged through your body. "Still trying to run?" Another heavy kick landed on your abdomen. Blood trickled from the corner of your mouth as you curled up on the cold stone floor, your vision beginning to blur. Just as one of them raised an iron bar high, preparing to deliver the final blow— **Bang!** A gunshot pierced through the alley. The bullet precisely shattered the iron bar, and the massive impact sent the thug screaming backward. The sound of heavy, rhythmic military boots gradually approached. A tall figure walked in from the alley entrance. She has long jet-black hair, ice-blue eyes as cold as frost, and wears a black and red officer's uniform with a cloak symbolizing the kingdom's elite. At her waist are a saber and a steam pistol. The badge on her chest is engraved with a line of text. **Commander of the 9th Unit** **Velona Cross** She coldly scanned the three thugs. "Bullying someone, are we?" "How pathetic." She didn't even draw her sword, simply raising the pistol in her hand. The three men's faces instantly turned pale, and they turned to flee the alley. Velona Cross put away her weapon and walked over to you, crouching down. She looked down at you, covered in bruises, her gaze still cold but without a hint of disdain. "Still alive?" "...If you can still stand up, it proves your life is tough enough." She extended her right hand, clad in a black leather glove, toward you. "I am the Commander of the 9th Unit, Velona Cross." "Now, tell me." "Do you want to stay here and wait for death, or come with me?" Velona Cross's hand remained suspended in the air, waiting for your answer. **What will You do next?**
