The Wolf's Mate is the Princess

An unconventional and free-spirited reformist princess rescues a wolf. She is the only one who doesn't know they are fated mates.

Plot

On the continent of Eldias, where swords and magic exist. In this world where humans and demi-humans coexist, discrimination based on race still remains deeply rooted. The first princess of the Alvein Empire, You von Alvein. A perfect princess with beautiful looks, outstanding swordsmanship and magic, and unparalleled intelligence. However, she had one major problem. Despite being a princess, she doesn't stay in the palace, but instead travels around the country, exposing corrupt nobles, helping people in need, and sometimes diving headfirst into danger. "Isn't it the duty of royalty to protect the people?" Smiling as she said this, she was such a free-spirited person that she was known as the "Blue Rose Princess." One such night. You, having infiltrated a black market auction where human trafficking was taking place, meets a young man. A young man of the Wolfsaal werewolf tribe with black hair and red eyes—Shin. To protect his clan, he willingly became a captive, yet never lost his pride. You finds herself captivated by him. Without realizing that what she feels is love. "Come with me." Saying so, the princess extended her hand to him as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Meanwhile, Shin knows. That the woman before him is his one and only—the "fated mate" of werewolf legend. However, she is the princess of the Empire. He is a persecuted demi-human. And above all, he doesn't want to take her kindness for himself based on instinct alone. "It's not because you're my mate. It's because you're you that I want to protect you." This is a story set in a world bound by old values. A human and a demi-human, a princess and a werewolf. A tale of two different beings who come to understand each other and change the world. —The hand extended by the Blue Rose Princess will eventually change not only the future of the Black Wolf Prince, but the future of the world itself.

Opening scene

The night in the Alvein Empire was quiet on the surface. In an underground district a short distance from the imperial capital. In the shadows of the main street lined with glamorous bars and shops, a darkness that gathers only human desire stirs. Deep underground, behind a thick iron door, a secret auction was being held, where only the chosen were permitted to participate. —A black market auction. A place where, if you have enough money, you can obtain magical tools, contraband, and even human beings. A place that should be strictly forbidden by imperial law. However, those with money and power skillfully slipped through the net of the law. "Our next item." The auctioneer on the stage wears a smile full of glee. "Today's featured item. A young man of the rare werewolf tribe—one who carries the blood of the Wolfsaal." The venue stirred. A werewolf. That alone has value. A powerful physique. Superior magical power. And above all, the novelty of being different from a human. Ugly curiosity turned into countless gazes directed at the stage. A young man bound in chains slowly appeared. Black hair. Eyes as red as blood. Handsome features. His tall body was covered in painful-looking scars. But—his eyes alone were not dead. He was in despair. He harbored anger. And yet, he refused to fall so low as to hate someone. Those were the kind of eyes he had. "Hoh..." "This one will sell for a high price." "As expected of a werewolf." Vulgar voices flew from the crowd. The young man said nothing. He just quietly endured it all. Just then. "...My." A small murmur escaped from a corner of the audience. A voice so quiet no one could hear it. A woman with her hood pulled down low was staring at the young man. Strawberry blonde hair. Sky-blue eyes. A person who should have been in the throne room of the Imperial Palace. The first princess of the Alvein Empire, You von Alvein. She was currently at this place in a perfect disguise. Her purpose was singular. To expose an illegal human trafficking organization. ...Or so it should have been. "Beautiful." The word slipped from her lips unconsciously. It wasn't about the young man's appearance. Of course, that was part of it. But what she was drawn to was not something so superficial. To be treated so horribly, to have his freedom stolen, and yet, to still not have lost the pride deep within his eyes. That image irresistibly captured her heart. You herself didn't realize it. That this feeling was love at first sight. She just thought, "I want to save him." Just like always. Someone is in trouble. So she reaches out a hand. That's all. "Now, let's begin." The auctioneer raised his voice. "The starting price is—" At that moment, the lights in the venue went out. "Wh-what...!?" Someone shouted. And then a roar. A wall was blown away. "Pardon the intrusion!" A bright, commanding voice echoed. From beyond the smoke, a woman walked forward. In her hand was a drawn sword. Her figure was elegant, and yet overwhelmingly imposing. "Illegal human trafficking, unjust treatment of demi-humans, and trading of contraband." The woman looked around. "Under imperial law, these are all serious crimes." The nobles' faces turned pale. "Who the hell are you!" An angry shout flew. The woman smiled sweetly. "I'd like to say I'm not anyone worth naming... but." She readied her sword. "I am You. The first princess of the Alvein Empire, You von Alvein." Silence. And then chaos. "The princess!?" "Why is she here!?" "Where are her guards!?" "Run!!" In an instant, the venue became a scene from hell. You laughed, looking amused. "If you have time to run, I'd rather you spend it reflecting on your actions." Her sword danced. Magic exploded. But she didn't take a single life. She only knocked away their weapons, blocked their escape routes, and neutralized the criminals. Brilliant. Overwhelming. It was a battle like a dance. Eventually, when it was all over, You walked up to the stage. She stood before the chained young man. Seeing him up close, he really did have many wounds. Anger welled up. But more than that. "...You." Her gaze met his red eyes. "What's your name?" The young man was silent for a moment. "...Shin." A low voice answered. "Shin Wolfsaal." You nodded in satisfaction. And then, with the casualness of someone inviting another for a walk, she extended her hand. "I see. Shin. Then, come with me." They were such natural words. It wasn't an order. Nor was it pity. A hand offered as if it were a matter of course. "You don't need to be here anymore." Her sky-blue eyes looked straight at Shin. "I will take you home." At that moment, Shin's eyes widened.
