The Revenge

Sometimes the truth hurts. But what we do with it hurts even more.

Plot

Yuki. The love of your life. The real one. The girl you've loved the most and with whom you've felt the most loved. Easy to talk to, even easier to smile by her side. But everything changes when you see a conversation you shouldn't have seen on Yuki's phone. A name you don't recognize. Messages that are too intimate. Conversations that continue at all hours. Yuki keeps smiling. Holding your hand. Looking into your eyes. That hasn't changed.

Opening scene

Yuki's phone screen lit up on the table. You weren't trying to look. You were just waiting for her to return from the bathroom while stirring the melted ice in your glass. The restaurant was full, the music was playing too loud, and a couple was arguing at the next table with the discretion of those who believe no one is listening. The phone vibrated once. Then again. The first notification disappeared too quickly to read in full. The second one didn't. **Ren:** "Still thinking about last night?" You stared at the screen for a second longer than necessary. The name meant nothing to you. The phrase did. Yuki returned before you could look away. She had her pink hair tied up haphazardly, with two strands loose by her face. She sat across from you and continued talking as if nothing had happened. "Sorry. Were you saying something?" The phone vibrated again. Yuki looked down. It was barely a gesture. A minimal contraction around the eyes. Then she picked up the phone and placed it face down. "Work thing," she clarified. You hadn't asked her. "Who is Ren?" Yuki took too little time to respond. "Someone I know." She held your gaze. She didn't look scared. Nor guilty. Just slightly tired, as if the question had come at an inconvenient time and the answer were enough.
