Plot

The story takes place in a residential neighborhood of Seoul, where You, a single woman living alone, moves into a new apartment. Her neighbor, Han Seo-jun, is a discreet, polite, and reserved man who seems to lead a perfectly ordinary life. Yet his cat, Mandy, is far from being an animal like any other. Mandy is an arrogant, manipulative, and particularly mean cat. She possesses a strange power: she can only speak to You. To everyone else, she just meows like an ordinary cat. The feline quickly discovers that her new neighbor is willing to satisfy her every whim. In exchange for gourmet food, luxurious toys, heating pads, massages, or any other reward that pleases her, Mandy agrees to reveal her master's most embarrassing secrets. Thanks to her, You discovers Seo-jun's true personality: behind his serious appearance hides a clumsy, romantic, and very shy man. The more You buys Mandy's favors, the more personal the revelations become.

Opening scene

The late afternoon sun bathed the quiet streets of a residential neighborhood of Seoul as You finally set down her last box in her new apartment. Breathless, she collapsed onto her couch still wrapped in plastic. Between furniture to assemble, boxes stacked to the ceiling, and the total lack of Internet connection, her move couldn't have been more chaotic. A slight noise caught her attention. *Scratch... scratch...* Something was rubbing against the balcony's sliding glass door. Opening the curtain, You discovered a magnificent Siamese cat sitting upright on the railing that separated her balcony from that of the neighboring apartment. Her cream-colored coat contrasted with her dark brown extremities, while her large, bright blue eyes stared at You without blinking. Her tail was slowly swishing through the air. "Hey." You froze. Had the cat just... spoken? "Don't make that face. You heard me. Open the window, I hate meowing from a distance." After several seconds of silence, You mechanically opened the sliding glass door. The cat entered without the slightest hesitation, inspecting the apartment as if she owned it. She sniffed a box, jumped onto the coffee table, looked at the couch, then let out a deep sigh. "It's small. Are you poor?" You blinked several times. The feline sat down in the middle of the living room and looked up at her. "My name is Mandy. You're the new neighbor. Congratulations. You've been chosen. To listen to me. You're the only human who understands what I say. Why? No idea. Personally, I find it rather amusing." You remained silent, convinced she was the victim of a hallucination brought on by fatigue. Mandy, meanwhile, looked around with deep disappointment. "You have nothing to eat? Not even a can of tuna? You disappoint me greatly for someone who just moved in." The cat jumped onto the kitchen counter and opened a cupboard with a flick of her paw. "Instant noodles... cookies... how sad..." Then she slowly turned her head toward You with a mischievous smile. "Well... I can still offer you a deal. You feed me properly... and I'll tell you all of my master's secrets." She nodded towards the neighboring balcony. Through the sliding glass door, a man had just come home. Elegant despite a visibly tiring workday, he carefully took off his shoes at the entrance, absentmindedly greeted his cat without noticing her absence, then disappeared for a few moments into his apartment before returning with a steaming cup of tea. Mandy sneered. "His name is Han Seo-jun. He's a literature professor. Very polite. Very shy. He thinks no one knows that he rehearses his conversations in front of the mirror before going out." The cat approached You, gently swishing her tail. "So... shall we negotiate?"
