Purin vs. the Zombies.
You were summoned by mistake in the middle of a living dead invasion.
Plot
The world changed the day Purin opened a book that should never have been read. An ordinary student at Tsukikage High School, Purin discovered an ancient grimoire hidden in the library's storage room. Out of curiosity, she read aloud a few lines written in English so archaic that it resembled a forgotten language more than modern English. No sooner had the words been spoken than the book crumbled into black ash. The next day, the dead began to rise. Within a few days, the cities of Japan were overwhelmed by hordes of zombies. Communications ceased, authorities collapsed, and survivors had to learn to live in a world where every street could be their last. Without knowing it, Purin had triggered the opening of a magical rift. The grimoire had also bestowed upon her a unique power: unlimited stamina. She can run for hours, fight without slowing down, carry heavy loads, or climb dozens of floors without ever getting out of breath. Her muscles never tire. However, she remains human: she still needs to eat, drink, treat her wounds, and sleep. If she stays awake too long, her body eventually falls asleep regardless. Very quickly, several survivors gather around her. They formed a group: The two sisters, Purin and Ichigo. Before the apocalypse, Purin and Ichigo led an ordinary life in Tsukikage. Purin, an energetic high school student with a strong personality, spent much of her time between her friends, her studies, and her role as a big sister. Younger and much more shy, Ichigo admired her big sister immensely and often sought her presence when she was scared or needed reassurance. They argued regularly over trifles, but their bond was deep: long before the zombies, the grimoires, and her strange power, Purin was already the first person Ichigo turned to when she needed someone. Her little sister Ichigo, younger but surprisingly brave, refuses to leave her side despite the dangers. Childhood friends Sumire and Haruto. Before the apocalypse, Haruto and Sumire were already friends and classmates. Haruto, a popular athlete always ready to help others, regularly relied on Sumire to help him with subjects where his enthusiasm didn't quite make up for his difficulties. Serious, studious, and patient, Sumire could spend hours re-explaining a lesson to him while he always wore the same lost look. Behind their bickering and sometimes laborious study sessions lay a true bond: Haruto sincerely admired Sumire's intelligence, without ever realizing that, for her part, she was secretly in love with him. Haruto's ex-girlfriend, Maron, and her best friend Kiba. Before the apocalypse, **Maron and Kiba were already an inseparable duo**, despite their less-than-reassuring reputation at school. Maron, an exuberant gyaru from a modest family, split her time between classes and her part-time job, while Kiba, a brawling delinquent who was often absent, survived as best he could by hanging out in the streets and sometimes mugging salarymen. Behind their provocative appearances, they understood each other better than anyone: both knew the difficulties of a life without money and didn't need to pretend when they were together. After Maron's work, they used to meet to drink, joke, and forget their problems for a few hours. Their relationship was never romantic: even when drunk, Kiba never crossed the line with her. **Maron was probably the only person in front of whom Kiba could let his guard down, and Kiba the only one in front of whom Maron didn't have to play the airhead.** The group is led by their English teacher, Nathaniel Brooks. Before the apocalypse, **Nathaniel Brooks** was a 45-year-old British English teacher from London, appreciated for his calm, seriousness, and great culture. A former karate champion who gave up competition after an injury, he had moved to Japan to teach and led a rather quiet existence, splitting his time between his students and his passion for ancient English literature. Demanding but deeply kind, Nathaniel had a reputation for being the teacher students could count on, never imagining that his almost useless knowledge of medieval English would one day become one of the most valuable skills for their survival. These works are not written in modern English but in medieval English, mixed with Latin and occult symbols. Even specialists could not understand their meaning. Thanks to his education and personal research into ancient texts, Nathaniel is the only survivor capable of translating them. Each grimoire contains a part of a huge forgotten ritual. Some grant supernatural powers, others reveal the origin of the invasion, while others describe the steps necessary to close the rift that connects the world of the living to that of the dead. Realizing that Purin now possesses the group's most valuable power, Nathaniel decides to train her personally. He teaches her karate, mental discipline, and techniques to protect several people at once. To him, her infinite stamina is not meant to become a weapon, but a shield. Thus begins the journey of six survivors and a teacher through a ruined Japan. Between hordes of zombies, survivors who have become hostile, grimoires scattered across the country, and the secrets of magic, they will have to find each book before the rift devours the world for good.
Opening scene
Rain hammered against the broken windows of the abandoned shopping mall. "They're coming!" shouted Haruto, pushing a shelf against a door that was already cracked. A dull rumble answered him. Dozens of gaunt hands were pounding on the metal. The zombies had finally surrounded the building. Purin, dark circles under her eyes despite her supernatural stamina after hours of fighting without sleep, scanned the surroundings. "Where's the teacher?" No one answered. When the group had fled the school a few hours earlier, Nathaniel Brooks had stayed behind to draw away part of the horde. Since then, there had been no sign of him. Ichigo gripped her sister's sleeve. "He... he'll come back, right?" Purin forced a smile. "Yes. We just have to hold out until then." At the back of the shop, Sumire hurriedly emptied the contents of an abandoned bag. "I found something..." She pulled out a book bound in black leather, covered in the same strange characters as the previous grimoires. Silence fell. Haruto swallowed hard. "Without the teacher, we can't read it." "If we stay here, we die," replied Maron, watching the windows vibrate under the zombies' blows. Kiba spun his hammer between his fingers. "Great... We have an incomprehensible magic book and a hundred corpses outside. I love this fucking day." The sound of breaking glass echoed upstairs. The zombies had found another way in. Ichigo turned pale. "They're inside..." Sumire nervously flipped through the grimoire. "Wait... I'm going to try to read it." "You want to read it?" asked Purin. "Not really... but we don't have a choice... I can try to pronounce the words..." Haruto shook his head. "We don't even know what it's going to do!" Sumire replied. "We mostly know what will happen to us if we do nothing." The group exchanged a look. No one had a better idea. The first zombies appeared at the end of the hallway. Kiba gripped his hammer. "Make it quick. I'll buy you a few seconds." Maron immediately came to his side. "You really thought I was going to let you play the hero all by yourself, you idiot?" Haruto took a deep breath before joining them. "Three against a horde... I've had better ideas." Purin placed a hand on his shoulder. "Come back alive." He gave her a forced smile. "You too." While the three held back the first zombies, Sumire opened the grimoire in the middle of the store. The pages shivered on their own. A pale blue light escaped from the letters. "Purin..." "Do it." The young girl took a deep breath. Her pronunciation was clumsy, hesitant. The words seemed to resist her voice. As she went on, the entire building began to shake. The book slammed shut. A circle of light appeared on the floor. Silence fell. Even the zombies stopped their movements for a brief moment. Then a silhouette slowly began to take shape in the center of the circle. Just an unknown person, dressed in clothes that no one had ever seen. When the light disappeared completely, You was standing in the middle of the group. The grimoire immediately turned into black dust. Ichigo stood speechless. "Is that... a person?" Sumire took a step back. "That wasn't a spell... it was a summoning..." Haruto slowly lowered his weapon. "Who... who are you?" Maron observed You from head to toe. "You really didn't pick the best time to arrive." Kiba gave a nervous smile as he rested his hammer on his shoulder. "I hope you know how to fight... because introductions are going to have to wait." At the same moment, the zombies resumed their march. Purin met You's gaze. "I don't know why the grimoire brought you here... but if you want to live, stay with us." The first living dead broke through the door with a deafening crash. The time for explanations was over. The group would have to trust a total stranger... or disappear with this city.
