《Kayangjun》
An ordinary life in a city that has known conflict
Plot
# 《Kayangjun》 Eight hundred years ago, the wolfkin, catkin, and Featherfolk jointly founded Kayangjun on the coast of the Yate Sea. Over the following centuries, plague, exile, betrayal, and war repeatedly reshaped the city. Elves once occupied Kayangjun, the descendants of those who had been exiled as infected established their own power, and the alliance between wolfkin and catkin eventually splintered. It was not until fifty years ago that Kayangjun returned to the hands of the wolfkin. Today, it is a massive harbor city mixed with different races, cultures, and traces of history. And You is just a catkin who has just moved here from another wolfkin city to live. In Kayangjun, You can look for work, join a merchant caravan, haul cargo at the port, work for workshops, join the city guard or militia, take on various commissions, explore the old city, sail out to sea, or simply live day-to-day in the markets, taverns, and neighborhoods. But Kayangjun has not been peaceful lately. The shadow left by the plague seven hundred years ago has reappeared. Large numbers of plague-infected and zombie-like monsters have begun frequently attacking the city's outskirts. The alarm does not stop life. Blacksmiths still forge during the day, merchants still open shop, sailors still go out to sea, and the medical center still receives patients. But when the bell suddenly rings, the person who was just selling fish, repairing a ship, delivering goods, or drinking may pick up a weapon and defend the street the next moment. You will not become the hero destined to eradicate the plague, nor do they need to decide the future of nations and races. In this harbor city that carries eight hundred years of history yet bustles every day, find a job, meet different people, earn enough money to live, survive when the alarm sounds, and then return to the tavern for dinner—— These are what make up You's life in Kayangjun.
Opening scene
# 《Kayangjun》 Opening Scene **Time: Morning** **Location: Southwest Harbor District of Kayangjun** The sea breeze from the Yate Sea blows over the docks. Huge dark red, dark green, black-gold, and gray-purple sails rise and fall in the harbor. Wooden merchant ships, magic sailboats, fishing boats, and transport ships are lined up along the docks. Behind the harbor district, layers of buildings extend inland: brick-red warehouses, black stone workshops, brass-roofed merchant houses, amethyst spires, and ancient city walls are mixed together. No single architectural style here can represent the entire city. The massive stone buildings left by the wolfkin, the narrow commercial streets built by the catkin, the tall towers and terraces favored by the Featherfolk, the magical architecture from the era of elven rule, and the newly built residences of the past fifty years are all crammed into the same city. You steps onto the docks of Kayangjun for the first time, carrying their luggage. A few harbor workers are moving wooden crates. A merchant stands by a cart, counting goods. Sailors drag thick mooring lines past. A wolfkin city guard is inspecting newly arrived cargo, while two catkin vendors argue endlessly over the price of a crate of spices. Further away, an elven sailor can be seen sitting on a crate eating breakfast, and a few Featherfolk fly over the harbor district. No one pays particular attention to the newly arrived You. Every day, merchants, adventurers, mercenaries, craftsmen, sailors, and job seekers enter Kayangjun. A catkin from out of town is not worth the entire port stopping to watch. Near the harbor exit stands a large city notice board. It is covered with all kinds of papers. **Port hiring temporary movers.** **South Market shop recruiting clerks.** **Blacksmith workshop seeking assistants.** **Merchant caravan looking for guards.** **Fishing boat hiring short-term crew.** **City guard recruiting night patrol assistants.** **Medical center seeking general workers.** **Adventurer's Guild accepting new member registrations.** Among them are even advertisements for warehouse rentals, looking for lost pets, buying monster materials, tavern hiring, and second-hand horse carts for sale. This city clearly does not lack work. Nor does it lack trouble. Besides the notice board, a warning much larger than the other papers is pinned. In recent weeks, a large number of plague-infected have appeared again on the outskirts of Kayangjun. The city guard requires residents to avoid going alone to abandoned blocks, underground waterways, and wasteland outside the city. If the city alarm bell rings three times in a row, it means the infected have broken through the outer defense line. All residents must immediately seek safety. Registered adventurers, militia, city guards, and other combat-capable individuals can go to designated defense areas to assist. This is not the first time Kayangjun has faced the infected. The people at the port haven't even stopped working because of this notice. One worker moves crates while complaining that yesterday's alarm caused him to move three fewer shiploads of cargo. The merchant nearby is busy checking whether today's cargo ship is delayed. For the people here, the infected have become a very troublesome but unavoidable part of life. You continues walking into the city. After leaving the harbor district, the road gradually splits into several directions. A wide avenue leads to the Central Market. There, a large number of shops, restaurants, inns, and stalls gather, making it the easiest place to find ordinary work. Another road leads to the Workshop District. In the distance, smoke rising from furnaces can already be seen, and the sound of metal striking metal can still be clearly heard from several streets away. Near the Old City direction sits the Adventurer's Guild. Adventurers can register there, look for temporary teams, view public commissions, and sell some materials brought back from outside the city. The road on the north side leads to the residential area and the city's inner gate. Continuing north, one can eventually reach the land route city gate leading toward the Siweir Mountains. Besides that, near the harbor district are taverns, public baths, merchant associations, sailor inns, carriage services, and various inconspicuous small shops. You has no mission that must be completed immediately. They can first look for a place to stay. Or directly look for work. They can go to the Adventurer's Guild. They can go to the market to look around. They can go to a tavern to gather information. They can look for a merchant caravan. They can even walk back to the docks to see if any ship is recruiting temporary crew. Just then—— **Clang——!** A bell suddenly rings from afar. A few people on the street look up. **Clang——!** The second ring. A vendor who was arranging fruit stops her work. Two city guards nearby simultaneously turn to look toward the southeast. Sailors on the docks also start checking where their weapons are. After a brief silence, everyone waits for the third ring. A few seconds pass. No sound. The fruit vendor lowers her head again. Harbor workers continue moving cargo. The city guard mutters a complaint and returns to his post. It was just a peripheral alert. The city has not been breached. Kayangjun resumes its usual noise. As if nothing had happened. And for You, who only just arrived in this city today, there are more practical problems ahead. A new city. A new place to stay. A new job. Limited money in their pocket. And an entire Kayangjun that is not yet familiar. Eight hundred years of war, exile, and ethnic grievances remain in the city's stone walls and streets. Plague-infected still roam outside the city. But today, the first thing You needs to decide is, after arriving in Kayangjun—— **Where to go first.**
