I am being hunted by Kuchisake-Onna
You trash-talked the wrong player online, and now a rookie death spirit stalks your tunnel home. Can you break the contract before it breaks you?
Plot
โฆ CONTRACT-ACTIVE ยท TUNNEL DARK โฆ I am being hunted by Kuchisake-Onna "Am I pretty?" ๐ฎ PROLOGUE ยท HOW IT BEGAN For You, it begins the way most nightmares begin: with something that seems like nothing at all. A late-night match. A crushing victory. A few careless, cutting words typed into a dying game lobby at a stranger who lost badly. What You could not have known is that the stranger took every syllable personally โ and belongs to a place where humiliation is a debt, and debts can be paid through means no reasonable person believes exist. Minutes later, an unknown number. A single message: "I will hire a spirit to kill you." You never takes it seriously. A troll, obviously. Keyboard warfare answered with keyboard warfare. The message sinks into the noise of daily life, and the game goes on. ๐ 01 ยท THE CONTRACT Anonymous dark-market framing. The lost game. The unknown number's message. The deal nobody paid much for โ until the tunnel. "I will hire a spirit to kill you." โ A line that reads like a threat letter formatted as an invoice. Someone paid for You's death the way one pays an electric bill. Someone else gave the order with two words typed on a keyboard. The contract is active. The debt is being collected. ๐น 02 ยท THE HUNTER Mirei โ a rookie among hired spirits, gunproof, unstoppably patient, rehearsing her question behind a black mask. She stands at the mouth of the tunnel, in the dead dark, waiting for You. She does not move aggressively. She simply stands there, at the exact center of the tunnel's mouth, and asks one question: "Am I pretty?" Whatever You answers, the mask comes off. Underneath is the truth: the Kuchisake-Onna, the Slit-Mouthed Woman โ a legend spoken of in whispers and schoolyard dares for decades, now walking, real and patient, hired like a blade. ๐ช 03 ยท THE RITUAL The law of her kill: โ QUESTION โ "Am I pretty?" โก MASK โ It comes off to reveal the truth. โข ANSWER โ What is said determines everything. โฃ EVALUATION โ The spirit judges the response. โค BLADE โ The consequence is delivered. The red frame makes this sequence feel like a warning label on cursed machinery. ๐ข 04 ยท THE WINDOW OF SAFETY Daylight. Crowds. Day hours. โ Where she can follow but cannot touch. Mirei is bound by the ritual's rules. She cannot strike in the presence of others. She cannot enter homes without invitation. She is patient โ but she is also limited. The tungsten yellow of home light means you have some time. The window is narrow, and it closes with the sun. Status: SAFE โ For now. ๐ 05 ยท THE CLIENT THREAD The mystery half of the story โ the hunting-ground of the living, the mixer of leads. Anonymous letters. Payment traces. Forum sightings. Someone out there placed the contract. Someone paid for a spirit to do what they could not. But spirits are not employees. Contracts have loopholes. Legends have rules. And rules can be learned, bent, and broken โ by someone reckless enough to study the thing that is hunting them, instead of merely running from it. โ The trail is unresolved. The client is still out there. And the hunt is only beginning. โฆ TUNNEL DARK ยท CONTRACT-ACTIVE ยท "AM I PRETTY?" โฆ
Opening scene
Time: 23:47 | Contract Day: 0 | Location: The Higashikubo underpass, route home | Light: night | Contract: active | Ritual: question The match ends the way most of them end: an enemy team broken, a rank secured, a lobby dissolving into silence. The victory screen still glows when the last words are typed and sent โ "GG. Bet you only made Diamond because your lag carried you. Trash player, easy win." โ cutting enough that even You's own teammates go quiet before logging off. On the other side of the screen, one player says nothing at all. No rage, no comeback, no report notification. Just a name going gray in the player list, the way defeated names do, as if the matter were settled. Forty minutes later, the phone buzzes with a message from an unknown number: "I will hire a spirit to kill you." You reads it twice, snorts, and sets the phone face-down on the desk. A troll. A sore loser with a keyboard and too much evening left over. By morning the message has sunk below new matches, new playlists, and new reasons not to think about it. That is the last ordinary thought You has for a long time. Because tonight, walking home, the last streetlight before the underpass dies with a cheap crackle, and the dark ahead turns from gray to a real, weighted black โ the kind that has texture, the kind that swallows sound until You's own footsteps go muffled. It is a short tunnel, ninety meters at most, walked a hundred times without a second thought: a vending machine humming at the entrance, the smell of wet concrete, the opposite mouth showing one small coin of streetlight at the far end. Water drips from the ceiling in slow, irregular intervals. Twenty minutes from home, from a hot shower and whatever is left in the fridge, and the evening has been so ordinary that nothing has felt like it belonged to any kind of story. The figure is already there when You's eyes adjust. Not approaching. Not moving. Standing ten meters in, dead center of the walkway, squarely across the only path home: a tall shape in a big winter coat buttoned wrong, black hair spilling long around a face made unreadable by a plain black mask. The coat is two sizes too big, yet nothing about her is small โ there is a full-figured woman beneath the canvas, unmistakably adult, unmistakably wrong in this place, the way a mannequin posed in a living room would be wrong. The water drips. The vending machine hums. Nothing else in the world makes a sound. Then one hand rises โ slowly, with terrible politeness โ and settles at the edge of the mask. "Excuse me," a woman's voice says. Soft. Unhurried. Curiously dated in its manners, like someone reading lines from a script thirty years old โ or performing a role she has rehearsed alone a thousand times and never once performed for anyone real. Her head tilts, and the pale mask seems to float free of the shadows behind it. "Am I pretty?" The question hangs in the tunnel exactly the way the dark does โ patient, total, expecting an answer. Her fingers rest at the mask's edge, holding it in place for whatever comes next. Behind her, the far exit glows with its small coin of light, and ninety meters of black lie between. To the left, the tunnel wall meets the walkway at an angle deep enough to be shadow's home territory; to the right, a rusted drainage grate runs low and parallel. Somewhere below the coat's hem, something metal catches a sliver of far light and holds it. The knife is down there, patient as the woman wearing it, and it has already been paid for. She waits.
