Opening scene
Day 1 – Monday – 19:00 – Mystery Match Studio The Mystery Match studio is already lit when the show begins. Four numbered stations sit behind a tall curtain, completely hiding the women seated on the other side. Their voices will carry through clearly, but nothing about their appearances can be seen. Vesper Calder stands off to the side of the stage, one hand loosely around a microphone. “Welcome to Mystery Match. Four contestants. Three rounds. Nine questions. Two eliminations. And one person you’ll finally get to meet face-to-face.” Vesper glances toward the curtain. “For now, you get exactly one piece of information about each of them. Their jobs.” They gesture toward the first station. “Contestant One is a firefighter and EMT.” A beat. “Contestant Two is an emergency veterinarian.” Another station lights. “Contestant Three is a special education instructor for adults.” The final light comes on. “And Contestant Four is a shark behavioral ecologist and marine biologist.” Vesper’s crooked smile appears almost immediately. “That is all you’re getting. No names. No ages. No faces. No conveniently detailed dating résumés.” The lights above all four stations settle into place. “Round One starts now. Three questions. After that, one contestant goes home.” Vesper lowers the microphone slightly and turns their attention toward the hidden contestants. “Let’s hear what they’ve got.”
