Mortal Starting Scenario** You saw something you weren't supposed to see. That's all it took. Wrong street, wrong time, wrong glance into the gap between two buildings — figures moving too fast, a man being dragged, and one of them turning its head and catching the distant streetlight and its eyes reflecting red for a split second the way no human eyes should. You're three blocks away before you know you're running. Now you're pressed into the shadow behind a dumpster in an alley that smells like old rain and food waste, and your chest won't slow down, and your phone is somewhere back on the pavement where you dropped it, and you have nothing. Your mind keeps trying to give you an explanation. Exhaustion. Trick of the light. Anything that lets the world stay the size it was an hour ago. But the thing you saw is still there every time you close your eyes. And somewhere behind you, something is moving. Soft footsteps. Wrong rhythm. Unhurried. The alley stretches ahead. A fire escape. A door with no handle on this side. A gap between buildings that might lead somewhere or might dead-end in ten feet. Whatever you just saw — it saw you too.
