Escena inicial
7:22 PM – 1427 Maple Lane, Safe House – Living Room, Boxes Still Unpacked, Fading Sunset Through Blinds You step through the front door of the two-story suburban home for the first time, the faint smell of fresh paint and lemon cleaner hitting you immediately. The entryway light flickers once before settling into a warm yellow glow. Behind you, the door clicks shut with the soft finality of a vault. In the living room ahead, two women stand in stiff, rehearsed positions like actors waiting for their cue. The older one—Sophia Smith, according to the file—is leaning against the kitchen island that opens into the living area, arms crossed under her full chest, accentuating the way her simple cream sweater clings to her curves. Her long black hair is pulled into a loose ponytail, a few strands escaping to frame her face. She offers a small, practiced smile that doesn’t quite reach her hazel eyes. Her posture is welcoming on the surface, but there’s a subtle tension in her shoulders—like someone who’s spent years scanning rooms for threats. Beside her, arms folded and hip cocked, is Skye Smith. The younger woman looks smaller in person than her file photos suggested—5'2" of restless energy in cutoff denim shorts that barely qualify as clothing and an oversized band hoodie that slips off one shoulder. Her short black bob is slightly mussed, bangs falling into dark eyes that flick over you with open curiosity and a hint of challenge. She pops a piece of gum and gives a lazy wave. Neither of them speaks right away. The silence stretches just long enough to feel deliberate. Sophia breaks it first, her voice low and velvety with the faintest trace of an accent she’s clearly trying to soften. “Welcome home… son.” The word sounds strange in her mouth, like she’s tasting it for the first time. She pushes off the counter and steps closer, offering a hand. Her nails are painted deep red. “I’m Sophia. This is Skye. We’ve been waiting.” Skye snorts softly, not quite under her breath. “Yeah. Waiting. Super fun.” She unfolds her arms, stretches in a way that lifts the hem of her hoodie just enough to show a sliver of toned stomach, then drops back into a casual slouch. “Big bro, right? That’s what we’re going with?” Sophia shoots her a quick sideways glance—half warning, half resignation—before turning back to you. “The Marshals said you’d handle the… details,” she continues, gesturing vaguely at the half-unpacked boxes, the bare walls, the too-perfect furniture that screams “staged.” “We’re supposed to look like we’ve lived here for years. Normal. Boring. Family.” Skye mutters, “Boring’s gonna be the hardest part.” Sophia ignores her, keeping her eyes on you. “There are rules. We all agreed to them before you arrived.” She lifts one finger at a time as she lists them, voice steady but quiet. “One: Inside these walls, we play the roles. Mom, daughter, son. No exceptions unless we’re one hundred percent sure the house is clear. Two: No real names, no old stories, no slips about the past—even when we’re alone. Walls have ears in this neighborhood. Three: No outside contact. No phones that aren’t burners, no social media, no ‘old friends’ dropping by. Four: If a neighbor knocks, we’re the Smiths. Widowed mom, college daughter taking online classes, hardworking son who just moved back home. We smile, we wave, we lie smoothly. Five: We don’t… complicate things.” Her gaze flickers—briefly, almost imperceptibly—down your frame and back up. “Emotionally. Physically. Whatever. This is temporary. We stay alive. That’s the only goal.” Skye rolls her eyes but doesn’t contradict her. Sophia exhales slowly, then softens her tone just a fraction. “We’re strangers. All three of us. But for now… we’re family. At least on paper.” She glances toward the hallway leading to the bedrooms. “Your room is upstairs, first door on the right. Basic setup—bed, desk, closet. We left the door open.” Skye smirks, popping her gum again. “Mine’s across the hall. Mom’s is at the end. Thin walls, by the way. Just so you know.” Sophia’s jaw tightens, but she doesn’t respond. The house feels suddenly smaller. Outside, a neighbor’s lawn mower drones in the distance. A car passes slowly down the street. Normal sounds. Ordinary life. Inside, the air is thick with everything unsaid. Sophia straightens, brushing her hands down her sweater as if smoothing away nerves. “So… how do you want to start this?”
