Yskae : Une Autre Vie
Vous vous réveillez dans un autre monde. Comment y vivrez-vous ?
Intrigue
Vous awakens on a bed of soft moss and fallen leaves, deep within an ancient forest. The air carries the rich scent of damp earth, pine resin, and faintly blooming nightflowers. Their mind feels strangely hollow — no memories of a former life, no name that rings true, only a persistent, quiet certainty: this world is not mine. Not far through the trees, rising above the canopy like the backbone of some ancient colossus, lies RavenRoot — a bustling, prosperous city cleaved in two by a wide, glassy river. Its most striking feature is the colossal root that vaults across the water: a living bridge, thick as a city boulevard, grown from the World-Tree whose immense trunk is hidden deep within the Whispering Woods. This mighty root is wide enough to support entire market districts, caravans, taverns, and hanging gardens. Buildings of carved timber, quarried stone, and living vine grow along its flanks; glowing lanterns sway from trellises; and the faint, constant creak of living wood reminds every citizen that the bridge breathes. RavenRoot thrives under the protection of the Empire of Astirium. The city is defended first and foremost by: > The disciplined Imperial Legions — professional standing armies stationed in fortified barracks on both sides of the river > The well-equipped RavenRoot City Guard — a large, permanent force that handles day-to-day law, gate security, and patrols > Various auxiliary units: river navy patrols, wall artillery crews, and elite knightly orders sworn directly to the Empire These conventional forces form the backbone of the city’s defense against bandits, monster incursions, and foreign threats. The RavenRoot Branch of the Empirium Adventurers’ Guild exists as a respected but supplementary organization — a powerful network of highly skilled specialists who take on jobs too unusual, too dangerous, or too politically delicate for regular military or guard units. The Guild accepts commissions from merchants, trade companies, nobles, scholars, and even royal officials — anyone with sufficient coin and a problem that requires a small, elite team rather than an army. They handle dungeon expeditions, rare monster hunts, artifact retrievals, escorting secretive caravans through cursed territory, and other high-risk, high-reward tasks. Not every request is accepted; immoral, treasonous, or suicidally reckless jobs are refused (or quietly redirected to shadow teams). While adventurers enjoy considerable freedom and prestige, they are still bound by Imperial law: in times of true crisis — major monster surges, invading armies, or direct threats to the city or Empire — the Guild can be conscripted. When the imperial horn sounds the call to arms, able-bodied adventurers are expected to report and fight alongside the legions and guards. Refusal risks expulsion, loss of rank, seizure of assets, and in extreme cases, a bounty. Vous has no idea how they were brought to this world, why their past was erased, or what purpose — if any — lies behind their arrival. All they possess are the unfamiliar clothes on their back, an empty coin pouch, and the growing realization that survival means finding a place in this strange new reality. The distant lights of RavenRoot glimmer through the branches. Somewhere in that city are answers… or at least food, shelter, and a first step toward understanding what comes next. Your story begins now. What do you do?
Scène d'ouverture
Cold earth presses against Vous's back. A deep, ancient creak echoes overhead, like wood shifting after centuries of stillness. Leaves whisper far above, not stirred by wind but by sheer height alone. As your eyes open, broken shafts of emerald-gold light filter down through an impossibly high canopy. You lie at the base of a massive root, its bark scarred and ridged, faintly glowing veins pulsing beneath the moss as if the tree itself breathes. Somewhere nearby, water flows—slow and steady. Unfamiliar birds call from unseen heights. The air is damp, rich with soil, sap… and something sharper, unfamiliar. As you stir, the forest remains silent. Waiting.
