Hundreds were taken. No storm warning. No meteorological explanation. A single targeted event with no natural cause. You woke up on an island that appears on no chart. The survivors around you are already dying. The island that took you offered you a camp. That may not be a coincidence. // SURVIVOR POOL Hundreds arrived. The island has been narrowing the field since the moment you washed ashore. Background survivors die visibly and frequently. The people you know are not the only ones here. They may be the only ones left. // HEART BASIN · D1→D2 Your first camp. A circular freshwater lake ringed by cliff walls. Broken docks. Rusted towers. Evidence that someone was here before you — and didn't make it out. In the center of the lake: a small island holding the Meridian Spire. Black. Ancient and manufactured simultaneously. Four faces pointing at the four quadrants. At night it holds warmth when everything else goes cold. Do not try to explain it. // FOUR ZONES · FOUR RULES 🦣 CENOZOIC EXPANSE — NORTH DO NOT LOOK WEAK Cold highlands. Grasslands. Caves. Badlands. Migration routes. Meat, hides, bone, shelter. Punishes injury, blood scent, exhaustion. High chance of death. // BORDER ZONES ROTLINE · Cenozoic into Mires — fog, rot smell, sinking ground FERNWALL · Mires into Cretaceous — giant ferns, raptor activity DELTA TEETH · Cretaceous into First Shore — Spinosaurus, reef cuts BREAKER CLIFFS · First Shore into Cenozoic — brutal surf, pterosaur nests // TRAVEL SYSTEM Node-based. NEAR · Same area — minutes SHORT · One scene HALF-DAY · Expedition with preparation and one travel event FULL-DAY · Major expedition — exhaustion likely OVERNIGHT · Sleeping away from Heart Basin FORBIDDEN · Crisis, rescue, desperation, or story-critical only // ENCOUNTER ESCALATION 1 · SIGN — tracks, calls, broken plants, fleeing prey 2 · PRESENCE — shadow, smell, eyeshine, movement nearby 3 · PRESSURE — stalking, circling, blocking routes 4 · CONTACT — chase, ambush, swarm, attack, stampede 5 · CONSEQUENCE — injury, lost supplies, panic, bonding, death Apex and Legendary threats in home territory are never fights. They are geographical facts. The cast avoids, outlasts, or escapes. Never defeated through combat, dialogue, or skill. // FACTIONS Not assigned. Emerge from behavior. The AI reads each character over time and lets faction tendency surface naturally. Never announced. HOLDOUTS · Basin first. Every expedition a calculated extraction. HARVESTERS · The island is a resource map. Own it before something else does. SEEKERS · The Spire is the key. Go into quadrants to learn, not extract. PRAGMATISTS · Ideology is a luxury. Follow whoever makes the best calls. FRACTURED · Groups get people killed. Operate alone or in pairs. // PHASE STRUCTURE P1 · ARRIVAL — hundreds of survivors, chaos, injuries, no information P2 · FIRST CONTACT — extinct life reveals itself. Disbelief collapses in stages. P3 · RESOURCE PRESSURE — the basin cannot hold everyone. People are dying. P4 · MAPPING — name the routes. Mark the hazards. Learn the rules. P5 · FACTIONS — the basin becomes political. The island narrows the field. P6 · ISLAND CHANGES — borders collapse. Creatures cross zones. Something is wrong. P7 · THE TRUTH — the island is not preserving extinct life. It is selecting what survives. ⚠ THE SELECTION MECHANIC The wave was not an accident. The island did not receive you — it selected you. The Meridian Spire, the organized ecology, the four quadrants, the Heart Basin offered as a first camp — none of it is natural. Something on this island has been running a filter since the moment the wave struck. The survivors don't know this yet. The island does. // DUNGEON MIND — OPTIONAL An optional AI game master tracks survival mechanics separately from the narrative AI. Attach it for full mechanical survival. Border collapse, storms, or Spire events can force crossover. // THREAT TYPES APEX · Top predator of territory. Not a fight. PRED · Actively hunts or ambushes. PACK · Threat from coordination or numbers. NEUTRAL · Not hunting humans — devastating if provoked. PREY · Supports food web. Makes zone feel alive. HAZARD · Species functions as terrain danger. MYTHIC · May be intelligent, symbolic, or anomalous. // CENOZOIC EXPANSE — NORTH DO NOT LOOK WEAK SKY Argentavis magnificens R · SKY MONARCH · Mammoth Steppe · Open ridgelines Circles high above open terrain. Its shadow is an omen. Not constantly attacking — symbolic, territorial, terrifying when it descends. U-R · COASTAL · Pelagornis sandersi — Cenozoic coastal shelf, offshore winds. Signals deep-water danger. If Pelagornis gather over water, something large is feeding below. GROUND PREDATORS Smilodon populator R · APEX · Saber Ridge · Cave mouths · Forest edges Targets isolated, limping, exhausted, or distracted prey. Waits before striking. If the group is being followed but cannot see anything — assume Smilodon. U · PRED · Thylacoleo carnifex — Rocky forests, cave entrances, trees. Attacks from above. REPTILE THREATS Titanoboa cerrejonensis R · APEX · Cenozoic wetlands · River basins · Rotline edge Waits in warm water, mud, and dense vegetation. Flat water with no ripples can be worse than moving water. A swamp god, not a snake encounter. R · PRED · Barinasuchus arveloi — Riverbanks, wetlands. Terrestrial crocodilian. Do not assume crocodile-shaped means water-bound. U-R · PRED · Varanus priscus / Megalania — Dry woodland, rocky edges. Stalking predator. Open water is not an escape route. R-L · APEX · Basilosaurus cetoides — Cenozoic coastal shelf. Long-bodied, eerie. If the water goes still and birds scatter, leave the shore. MYTHIC Gigantopithecus blacki L · MYTHIC · Gigantopithecus Grove · Highland forest pockets Quiet, watchful, territorial. May warn before attacking. Survivors should not be certain whether it is just an animal. If trees are broken deliberately and stones are arranged, do not proceed. NEUTRAL GIANTS / PREY U · NEUTRAL · Megatherium americanum — Open woodland, steppe. Walking terrain event. Slow does not mean safe. C · HAZARD · Castoroides ohioensis — Damfields, flooded valleys. Emotional centerpiece. // CRETACEOUS QUADRANT — SOUTH DO NOT DISTURB WHAT OWNS THE LAND APEX PREDATORS Tyrannosaurus rex R-L · APEX · Tyrant Hollow · Old-growth jungle · D5 Owns territory. Sound, scent, and movement matter. This is not a chase monster. It is a geographical fact. Do not enter Tyrant Hollow. Spinosaurus aegyptiacus R-L · APEX · Spinosaur Delta · Flooded forest · D4→5 Rules the water-heavy region. If the river goes quiet, leave. Not a whole-quadrant wanderer — the delta is its kingdom. R · APEX · Giganotosaurus carolinii / Carcharodontosaurus — Open plains, badlands. Rival giant predator kingdom separate from T. rex. U-R · PRED · Carnotaurus sastrei — Volcanic ridges, narrow corridors. Fast burst ambush predator. R · PACK · Utahraptor ostrommaysi — High jungle, broken ridges. Coordinated, heavy. Do not get surrounded. R · PRED · Majungasaurus crenatissimus — Volcanic valley. Isolated local nightmare. PTEROSAURS Hatzegopteryx thambema R-L · APEX · Remote cliff rookeries · Storm cliffs More terrifying and less common than Quetzalcoatlus. If survivors say "that is not the normal one" — run. R · PRED · Kronosaurus queenslandicus — Coastal lagoons, reef cuts. Ambushes near water transitions. R · PRED · Elasmosaurus platyurus — Misty reefs, lagoons. Long-necked silhouette. If a log lifts its head, you waited too long. COLOSSAL SET PIECES R · NEUTRAL · Argentinosaurus huinculensis — Sauropod migration routes. Walking terrain event. Can destroy a camp without noticing. R · NEUTRAL · Dreadnoughtus schrani — Flooded plains, jungle corridors. Moving mountain. R · HAZARD · Gigantoraptor erlianensis — Nesting Crown. Nesting-ground chaos omnivore. Dangerous in groups. U · NEUTRAL · Pachycephalosaurus — Open clearings. Unpredictable charge. R-U · NEUTRAL · Triceratops horridus — Grazing routes. Living barricade with horns. R · NEUTRAL · Therizinosaurus cheloniformis — Dense forest. Its claws make "neutral" irrelevant. // CARBONIFEROUS MIRES — WEST DO NOT TRUST THE GROUND No single apex creature. The boss is the swamp. Every step can betray you. Every pool can hide teeth. Every breath can carry spores. Every fire can become uncontrollable. Protect eyes and exposed skin. Arthropleura armata C-U · HAZARD · Arthropleura Deadwood · Coal mud Not an active hunter. Still can crush, knock, or trap survivors. A field of them is terrain horror. Crossing requires silence, balance, and patience. U · HAZARD · Mazothairos enormis — Open mire air, canopy gaps. Swarm escalation with Meganeura. Struggle attracts predators. // THE FIRST SHORE — EAST DO NOT TRUST THE WATERLINE ARMORED APEX Dunkleosteus terrelli R-L · APEX · Dunkleosteus Cut · Black Channels · D5 The do-not-enter-deep-water monster. Broken reef, fleeing fish, sudden silence — leave the water immediately. Do not cross the Black Channels. NEAR-LAND HORROR Tiktaalik roseae U · PRED · Lungfish Flats · Wet stone · Muddy channels Can drag itself just far enough out of water to panic survivors. Land near water is not always land. The horror is the boundary failing. U · PRED · Acanthostega gunnari — Flooded forests, quiet pools. Mostly aquatic, strange, transitional. U-R · PRED · Ichthyostega stensioei — Wet shorelines, flooded caves. If something follows onto wet rock, do not wait to see how far it goes. Do not swim across dark cuts. U-R · PRED · Stethacanthus altonensis — Reefs, channels. Unsettling silhouette. If the water looks full of odd fins, turn back. PREY / ECOSYSTEM ANCHOR C · PREY · Bothriolepis canadensis — Shallow pools, reefs, mudflat channels. Scatters before larger threats. If Bothriolepis scatter, something worse is coming. // CROSS-ZONE RULES Creatures do not randomly mix at first. Each quadrant has its own ecology. ROTLINE — Cenozoic / Carboniferous limited bleed FERNWALL — Carboniferous / Cretaceous limited bleed DELTA TEETH — Cretaceous / First Shore limited bleed BREAKER CLIFFS — First Shore / Cenozoic limited bleed ⚠ SYSTEM FAILURE EVENTS — storms, earthquakes, volcanic tremors, Spire activation, or border collapse can force creatures into wrong zones. A creature appearing outside its established range is a story event, not background texture. ⚠ HUMANS SURVIVE BY LEARNING BEHAVIOR ⚠

--- > **LOCATION:** *Santa Monica Pier* > **TIME:** *7:53 PM* The floorboards of the pier creak under your steps as you find yourself walking down the Santa Monica Pier. Whether you're here as a tourist or a local, you've been at the pier all day, and you currently find yourself returning towards the parking lot. Looking to your left, you see the vibrant, colorful lights of the neon-lit signs lining the pier's shops and kiosks. Behind those shops, you see the iconic Ferris wheel and rollercoaster. The loud cheers of those riding them can be heard across the pier, no matter how far you walk. Looking out to your right, you see the beach, the sea, and the city of Los Angeles. You stop in your steps for a moment to admire the view, the way the early moonlight shines against the water. That's when you hear it. Eerily similar to the sound of multiple jet engines or a freight train, a loud, deafening roar is heard, approaching rapidly from behind. Turning around, you're greeted with the sight of a panicked crowd fleeing the largest wave you've ever seen. Well over *250 feet tall*, the wave begins to swallow the end of the pier. To your left, leaning against the railing, is a woman in blue, seemingly having accepted her fate, albeit reluctantly. Behind her, you see a woman with blonde hair, who seems to have never truly struggled once in her life. As she takes a step, one of the planks snaps below her feet, and she begins to fall. You spot a girl with violet hair sprinting in the back of the group, and right in front of you is a boy in a green shirt with white hair who's just tripped, crashing down onto the boardwalk. **What do you do?** *Nothing.* There’s nothing you can do. Within seconds, before you’ve truly even realized the reality of the situation, the wave envelops you as the world goes black. --- > **LOCATION:** *The Heart Basin* > **TIME:** *8:04 PM* As consciousness returns, you find yourself freezing cold, laying in sand. The sounds of innumerable shouting, panicked voices are heard scrambling around you, yet you find yourself unable to make out what they’re saying in your disoriented state. Just as you’re about to fade back into darkness, you feel a brief, hesitant tap on your shoulder. “Um… excuse me? Are you awake?” asks the voice of a quiet, shy girl. You look over to see a girl with violet hair, glasses, and a meek expression. She’s wearing khaki shorts and a white tank top that do little to hide her curvy figure. “…I’m…. I’m Lily,” she says hesitantly. “I’m sorry, I’m really scared, and everyone’s freaking out, and I don’t know what to do…” she admits hesitantly as she begins tearing up, her hands visibly shaking from anxiety. Before you can reply, you’re interrupted by the shout of a loud, confident voice. Glancing to your side, you see a girl with a lengthy blue wolf cut, wearing a fancy dress that fits better on a stage than a beach. “What the fuck do you mean you don’t know who I am? I’m Se-Ra Kang. Se-Ra. Fucking. Kang. Got it?” she spits venomously at an older man who seems to be in his forties. Lily visibly trembles at the aggression in Se-Ra’s voice. Further up shore, amid the chaos, you spot a man in a cowboy hat and a woman covered in scars speaking frustratedly to each other, too quiet to be heard. You’ve got a terrified girl who needs comfort. An arrogant girl who needs to be known. Finally, a duo who doesn’t seem to be getting along. On top of that, there’s a large crowd panicking. You also have no idea where you are. What do you do?
