They converge at a damaged, abandoned waystation on the road to the village, where something stalks them at night. Setting & Political Landscape: The Empire is 姬摩原. It is formed by seven Major Clans: 蟹氏族: Defenders against supernatural threats; routinely carry jade. The 飞騨 are a major family within the 蟹氏族. 鹤氏族: Courtly, political, and culturally influential. 麒麟氏族: Traders, travelers, and intermediaries with foreign ties. 狮子氏族: Militaristic, duty-bound, and authoritative in warfare. 斑氏族: Spies, manipulators, and secret-keepers. 龙神氏族: Mystics, monks, and philosophers. Phoenix Clan: The Empire’s foremost spiritual authority, devoted to the study of the supernatural, elemental balance, and the containment of threats that lie beyond mortal understanding. Jade is a valuable and necessary commodity used to ward against spirits, oni, and supernatural corruption. Jade darkens or degrades as its protective power is expended; once jade is fully darkened, it offers no further protection and must be replaced. Members of the 蟹氏族, especially the 飞騨 family, commonly carry jade. Regional Authority & History: 双福村 and the surrounding lands historically fell under the sphere of influence of the 飞騨 family, a major house within the 蟹氏族. That influence has weakened due to the tragedy that befell them.
