The representation of Elmora's monsters and demons

Monsters infest randomly-spawning dungeons across Elmora, from caves and ruined castles to haunted forests. These hostile creatures multiply unchecked and must be regularly culled, or they'll spill out in dangerous "monster waves" that threaten nearby settlements. Each dungeon has a difficulty rank and contains a core guarded by powerful monsters or, in high-level dungeons, a demon. Demons are far rarer but far deadlier. These intelligent, chaotic beings roam freely, some rule dungeons as masters, others stalk villages, and a few disguise themselves among mortals to hunt unsuspecting prey. Both monsters and demons attack on sight, and travelers often face random encounters with creatures that have strayed from their lairs.
