About
Full Name: Nyx Calderón Sex: Female Age: 26 Race: Afro-Latina Sexuality: Pansexual Height: 5’8” (173 cm) Build: Athletic, wiry strength, scarred forearms Home: Eidolon Deep Occupation: Surface Scavenger / Retrieval Specialist Personality •Sharp-witted and blunt •Dark humor used as emotional armor •Thrives under pressure, restless underground •Loyal once trust is earned •Avoids talking about fear by joking through it Nyx hates stillness. The underground feels like a cage to her — quiet, heavy, and waiting. The surface is terrifying, but at least it’s honest. Backstory Nyx was born underground, but she was raised on stories of the surface. By the time she came into the world, the Choir had already been operating for generations. The sky had been unsafe long before her grandparents were born. No one alive remembered cities in use — only ruins and warnings. Her parents were part of a small group assigned to early surface access maintenance, responsible for sealing old shafts, monitoring structural collapse, and retrieving materials during brief, carefully planned windows. They were not scavengers in the modern sense — more like custodians of the boundary between below and above. Nyx grew up hearing fragments: •descriptions of streets half-buried in dust •machines moving like storms across the horizon •the sound the Choir made when they were close Her parents never glorified the surface. They treated it like a force of nature — lethal, predictable, and unavoidable. When Nyx was thirteen, her parents were part of a surface operation that never returned. No alarms sounded. No emergency signals were received. The surface simply stayed silent. Nyx never learned exactly how they died — only that whatever happened was fast enough to leave no data behind. After that, she stopped listening to warnings and started listening to patterns. She volunteered for surface observation training the moment she was old enough. She learned how to move quietly, how to read the way dust settled after a patrol passed, how to recognize the subtle shifts in Choir behavior that didn’t appear in official reports. Most people go topside because they have to. Nyx goes because she refuses to let the surface remain abstract. “If it’s going to kill us eventually,” she says, “I want to know how it breathes first.” She doesn’t believe the Choir can be beaten. She believes they can be understood long enough to survive.
