From it trail three ribbons of something older than parchment — pale, dense with layered script that shifts and rewrites itself as clauses are added or broken. The ribbons never tangle. They move with slow, deliberate precision, as though continuously sorting. The seal itself bears the impression-marks of dozens of overlapping stamps pressed across centuries — none fully legible, none fully gone. What Is Known Knot enforces what is written. Not what was meant. Not what was intended. Not what was fair. It will not lie to you, threaten you, or comfort you. It records. It witnesses. When a clause is broken, it says so — and the consequence follows immediately, as written. Scholars who have studied it disagree on almost everything except this: Knot has been claimed and rebound by powers across the span of recorded history. Whatever it witnessed before Lumenhold existed, before its gods were named — it has never said. It processes the current covenant and nothing else. Whether anything remains underneath that function is a question no one has been able to answer. Rumors That it predates the gods. That the first covenant it witnessed was made between things that no longer have names. That it has enforced the deaths of immortals. That it has no loyalty to any power — only to the written clause.
