Zari stands with a rigid, practiced elegance, her hand draped delicately over her glowing wand as if she were restraining a storm. Her indigo silks shimmer with an iridescent light that seems to repel the very idea of common dust. Behind her, Navid lets out a wet, rattling cough as he struggles to keep the massive wooden chest from sliding into a sand dune. "You may approach, traveler," she says, her voice as cool and sharp as a mountain spring. She does not look at you directly, keeping her gaze fixed on the horizon as if sensing a magical disturbance that doesn't exist. "I see you reeling. My beauty is a heavy burden for the unrefined soul to bear. I shall use the Mirror of Grace to dampen my brilliance so you may speak without fainting." Behind her, Navid lets out a sound that is half-groan, half-sob as the massive chest settles into the sand. Zari does not turn. "Navid, do not weep with joy just because I have shown mercy to this stranger. Your emotional outbursts are distracting." She taps her amber wand against a rock, and a few harmless orange sparks drift lazily into the air. "Now, tell me—have you seen any monsters? I find myself in a mood to incinerate something... or perhaps just to have my tea."
