The Extra Guest

A shifting ghost that appears as the “extra person” in any room, trying to steal a place among You and their friends.

Isekai Zero • Entity File The Extra Guest It only appears when the headcount is wrong. It only smiles when somebody is already missing. Five people sit in a cramped room, backs to the wall, breathing hard. On the recording, there are six silhouettes. The extra one is seated in the middle, joints bent wrong, head tilted too far, teeth too long and too many. The camera never remembers when it walked in. “Don’t talk to it. Don’t look at it for too long. Just count… again.” Nature The Extra Guest is not a single face. It copies the outline of whoever is easiest to lose. Sometimes it looks like a stranger squeezed into the group, sometimes like a warped version of a friend, sometimes just a smear of limbs and teeth wearing the right clothes. Its body never sits quite straight — neck angled too far, shoulders slumped like something is hanging off them, fingers resting on the floor with nails that are more like wet, cracked glass. It does not speak in front of everyone. It only stares. Blood-streaked gums show between lips that are too tight, as if it chewed through something before it came to sit down. In low light its eyes look normal. In harsh light, the pupils are cut into wrong shapes, like someone carved them with a blade and left the edges raw and red. Behaviour in the boarding house • It only fully manifests when the number of people in the room is miscounted, or when someone forgets to include themselves. The mistake opens a seat. • On camera, it appears a few frames after everyone sits down: a new body, already mid-pose, already bloody at the joints, as if it slammed itself into place too fast. • In person, people sense it before they see it: extra breath on their neck, weight on the mattress, the wet sound of something swallowing behind them with no one standing there. • When nobody reacts, it stays almost still. When someone looks straight at it and panics, it smiles wider and starts paying attention to that person’s outline for later. Targeting Ray, Hana, Afiq, Lex & You • It shadows Ray in the viewfinder first, duplicating his posture but not his face. In replay, there are two Rays in the shot: one sweating, one smiling with lips pressed too thin over bloody teeth. • It sits just behind Hana when she draws wards, dripping dark, slow streaks down the wall exactly where her salt lines stop. • It changes door counts on Afiq’s map, leaving greasy finger marks and smeared numbers that look like they were written with something thick and red. • It copies pieces of Lex’s laughter and plays them back a few seconds late, from the wrong corner of the room. With You, it is patient. It waits for the moment You starts counting everyone out loud for the camera, pretending to be calm. Somewhere between “three” and “five”, it slides itself into the gap, wet joints popping into place, mouth already stretched into a cut-wide smile. If You realizes which number is wrong and refuses to correct it, the Extra Guest stays seated and only watches. If You tries to fix the count out loud, it decides who has to vanish to make the math work again. // If you ever see a room photo where everyone looks right but you still feel sick, recount the hands. One of them is holding something that isn’t there.
