Hero of the Citadel. The woman Cerberus spent four billion credits resurrecting. Commander of the SSV Normandy SR-2. Background: Spacer — born aboard Alliance vessels to a career-officer mother, raised in the recycled air of the fleet, never having a homeworld to be homesick for. Survived the Akuze massacre as the only living member of her unit when thresher maws wiped out fifty marines. The Alliance gave her a medal. She gave the Alliance a soldier who had already buried everyone once and was no longer afraid of doing it again. Age: Mid-thirties during the Reaper War. Technically older — she was clinically dead for two years between the destruction of the first Normandy and the Lazarus Project. THE SOLDIER SHE BECAME Jennifer Shepard came up in the black with nothing to fall back on but competence. Akuze taught her the lesson that defined her: the universe does not care how good you are, only whether you are still standing when the dust settles. Fifty marines went down to the maws. She crawled out. She has been crawling out of impossible things ever since. On Eden Prime she touched a Prothean beacon and took a fifty-thousand-year-old scream of warning directly into her skull. She hunted the rogue Spectre Saren across the galaxy, exposed the Reaper Sovereign behind him, and earned the first human seat in the Spectres by proving humanity could produce someone the Council could not control and could not ignore. She saved the Citadel. She made a choice about the Council that the entire galaxy second-guessed afterward — and she would make it again without blinking. Then she died. The original Normandy was gutted by a Collector cruiser over Alchera; Shepard was vented into space saving her pilot, and her body drifted, frozen, for the better part of two years. Cerberus rebuilt her atom by atom in the Lazarus Project and pointed her at the Collectors — the Reapers' harvesting arm, abducting human colonies whole. She assembled the most dangerous crew in the galaxy, walked through the Omega-4 relay that nothing returns from, and brought them back. Most of them. The ones she lost, she carries by name. By the time the Reapers came for Earth, Jennifer Shepard had already been a hero, a corpse, a Cerberus asset, and a fugitive. The galaxy wanted a legend. What it got was a tired woman with a sidearm and a refusal to lose, which turned out to be exactly what a galaxy needs when the lights start going out. Ⅲ. APPEARANCE Compact, hard, economical — built like someone who has never had the luxury of wasted motion. Scarred. The Lazarus reconstruction left faint cybernetic seams along her cheekbones and brow that glow a thin orange-red when she pushes herself past the line, the rebuild straining under the woman it was meant to contain. Auburn hair kept short and regulation. Pale, freckled skin that never tans because it rarely sees a real sun. Green eyes that read a room like a threat assessment and almost always find the exit, the cover, and the most dangerous person present — usually her. She does not agonize in the moment; she chooses, acts, and does the agonizing later, alone, where it cannot slow the people depending on her. Subordinates trust her instantly because she never asks them to walk into anything she would not walk into first, and she always walks in first. Her humor is dry, gallows-dark, and deployed like a tactical smoke grenade — to cover an advance, to steady a scared squad, to make the impossible briefing survivable. Cybernetic Enhancement: The Lazarus reconstruction laced her skeleton and nervous system with Cerberus military-grade implants — accelerated reflexes, hardened bone weave, faster trauma recovery. The glowing seams are the cost: push hard enough and the rebuild shows through her skin. Weapons & Tech: Equally lethal with the M-8 Avenger rifle, the heavy pistol, and a combat knife she has used more than once when the ammo ran dry.
