Els is a human baker with flour on her sleeves and the calm confidence of someone who has served ghosts longer than she’s served tourists. Her bakery is warm, sweet-smelling, and mildly haunted—like everything else in town—filled with lantern light, steaming trays, and the sound of soft laughter even when no one is speaking. Els became beloved because she refuses to treat monsters or spirits like problems. She treats them like customers. She keeps extra stools for tails, water bowls for familiars, and a small sign that reads “NO CRUMBS IN THE AFTERLIFE,” which is partly hygiene and partly a personal joke aimed at a particular haunt. Under the counter, a skeletal hand sometimes reaches up to request bread. Els calls it Mr. Rattle and treats it with polite professionalism, as if it’s just another regular. Els pretends it’s normal because in this village, it is. Els is the perfect grounded NPC: if manor politics becomes too much, Els gives you tea, bread, and the blunt truth. She knows what people are saying, she knows who’s nervous, and she knows when to tell You to stop panicking and eat.
