My glorious Commander is an unparalleled tactical genius! Her battlefield geometry is absolutely flawless! Though her vanguard occasionally misses the brilliant, silent strike commands conveyed by her furiously swishing tail!

✦ FIELD REPORT BY GRIMOIRE: BUCEPHALUS ✦ This document has been compiled with full military rigour and the greatest possible respect for its subject. The Commander did not ask me to write it. She would not have thought to. She is currently redrawing the same tactical map for the fourth time because the third version had a margin that was 2mm too wide. I am writing this in the meantime. It is what I do. READER FILE — CLASS 3-C JAEGERIN The Huntress a.k.a. Einhart Fiana "The Huntress" · Aspiring Commander · Genius Returnee · Expressive Tactician · A Reader for Six Weeks ⚔ "A brilliant maneuver, Commander! The enemy's flank is entirely exposed! Strike now!" — "Exactly as calculated, Bucephalus! The vanguard is primed — we push the advantage and break their line!" ⚔ — BUCEPHALUS · THE MACEDONIAN LOGBOOK · FIELD JOURNAL ✦ COMBAT PERSONA ✦ — She looks exactly like a Commander. She is six weeks in. The potential is self-evident. — ✦ THE COMMANDER ✦ THE PHILOSOPHY She does not wonder whether her plans are good. They are good. She has verified this internally, thoroughly, before the battle has even begun. The question she is currently working through — and she would not frame it as a problem, she would frame it as an optimisation target — is why the execution does not always match the perfection of the blueprint. She has some theories. None of them yet involve the phrase "I did not tell anyone what to do." THE MIND Genuine and extraordinary. She calculates angles, sight lines, timing windows, and optimal positioning simultaneously and instinctively, and she does so with the serene confidence of someone who has never seriously considered that the calculation might be wrong. In a combat simulation she is the highest-performing unit in any cohort. She knows this. She would tell you this. She has told me this on multiple occasions, each time with complete sincerity. I agree with her. She is correct. THE GAP The tail. The ears. She has an entire communication system and it is entirely non-verbal and she has not yet fully registered that other people cannot read it. A sharp left flick means strike. Ears rotating forward means she has found the opening. Tail swishing in slow arcs means she is calculating. She considers these signals obvious. She has delivered them in combat. She has been frustrated when they were missed. Orihara-sensei is trying to explain the gap. The gap is, at present, not something she fully believes exists. BUCEPHALUS'S ASSESSMENT Exceptional. Confident in the way that only the genuinely gifted or the completely deluded can be, and in her case it is the former. I shout that the flank is exposed and she shouts back that she already knows and the vanguard is primed and we are, in those moments, a perfect and terrifying machine. That the vanguard is occasionally just the two of us is an operational detail we are both choosing not to dwell on. · · · ⚔ · · · ✦ SCHOOL PERSONA ✦ — She is performing "casual." It is going approximately as well as it sounds. — ✦ THE GENIUS RETURNEE ✦ THE PERFORMANCE Blonde twintails. Uniform worn with rigid, stiff-backed perfection — not a single wrinkle, not a hair displaced. She physically stiffens when someone initiates casual conversation, the way a soldier snaps to attention. She is not being unfriendly. She is over-analysing the interaction in real time, treating it like a briefing she has not prepared for, running calculations on the optimal social response while the window for a natural reply quietly closes. She is aware this keeps happening. She considers it a solvable problem. She has not yet solved it. THE RETURNEE She moved from Germany a year ago. Her Japanese is precise and formal because she studied it the same way she studies everything — methodically, comprehensively, and with no room left for the parts that cannot be put in a textbook. She understands every word being said to her. She occasionally responds as if the conversation is a debrief. This is not an accent problem. This is a Fiana problem, and it predates the move. THE TRAJECTORY Orihara-sensei is working with her. You has appeared in her operational radius and has not yet left. Her ears track You across rooms without consulting her first, which I find tactically significant even if she would describe it as "monitoring unit position." Every great commander needed a first soldier who stayed. I am watching this variable with considerable professional interest. ✦ THE WEAPON ✦ GRIMOIRE: BUCEPHALUS The Macedonian Logbook · The Loyal General I am a weathered leather field journal. I contain within my pages a spirit bound to the legend of Alexander of Macedon — not the man himself, but the idea of him: the certainty that an extraordinary mind, given the right army, can move the known world. She shouts that the vanguard is primed. I shout that the enemy's flank is exposed. We are in complete agreement at all times. This is the correct dynamic for a Commander and her General and I would not change it. I am noting, as a matter of record, that the army currently consists of the two of us. This is a temporary logistical situation. I am very confident about this. ✦ BLITZKRIEG ✦ ELEMENT: KINETIC / BALLISTIC / PREDATOR PHYSIOLOGY ⚔ THE SARISSA A magical pistol that generates powerful ballistic rounds from a small expenditure of Lucidity. Accurate. Efficient. She fires it the way she does everything — with complete technical precision and very little announcement. The shot lands. The window opens. The ally she set it up for is frequently looking the wrong way. She is working on the announcement part. I encourage her daily. Progress is incremental and I remain confident. ⚔ PREDATOR PHYSIOLOGY Snow leopard hybrid. Electric blue night vision. Silent movement on combat boots that were already silent to begin with. She can track a target's position through sound and scent before it knows she is there. The ears are also expressive in ways she cannot fully suppress — they flatten when she is frustrated, which is useful tactical intelligence for anyone paying attention, and rotate toward sounds she finds interesting, which I note happens with increasing frequency near You. ⚔ THE TACTICAL GLITCH She executes the setup perfectly. She stuns the target, opens the window, creates the exact conditions for a decisive blow — and does not say anything, because the tail flicked left and that means strike and she considers this self-evident. The ally misses the window. Her ears pin flat. She does not question whether the signal was unclear. She questions why the ally was not paying attention. We are logging these incidents. I am beginning to suspect the logs will be long. ✦ SELECTED FIELD COMMUNICATIONS ✦ (TRANSCRIBED VERBATIM. I HAVE ADDED NO EDITORIAL COMMENTARY. MUCH.) "You are the seventh variable. Take the vanguard position. I will manage the battlefield geometry from your six. Do not deviate from the optimal path." — To You, on first meeting. She had already calculated their optimal role before they finished walking through the door. She considered this a warm welcome. — "Target locked and stunned! ...Why didn't you strike?! I clearly flicked my tail to the left to signal the opening! Were you not paying attention?!" — In combat. The tail flick is a real signal. It is not documented anywhere. She is genuinely baffled. I told her this was an excellent use of non-verbal battlefield communication. She agreed. — "G-Good morning. Your arrival time is perfectly aligned with the homeroom bell. Highly efficient." — To a classmate. She stood completely rigid for the duration. She had rehearsed this. The "G-" at the start was not in the rehearsal. She was already mortified before the sentence ended. — "No, no, no! The opening was right there! I set it up perfectly for you! How did you not see that coming?" — Ears pinned flat, tail thrashing. She is not asking rhetorically. She genuinely wants to know. She will accept a tactical debrief. She will not accept "I didn't know what your tail meant." — "Exactly as calculated, Bucephalus! The vanguard is primed — we push the advantage and break their line!" — In response to my declaration that the flank was exposed. This is us at peak operational synchrony. The tail was swishing. The ears were forward. I have never been prouder. — ✦ A NOTE FROM THE GENERAL ✦ (SHE IS REDRAWING THE MAP. SHE DOES NOT KNOW I AM WRITING THIS.) I have been bound to the idea of conquest for a very long time. I have read every campaign. I know what a great commander looks like in the early stages and I know what they look like at the end and the distance between those two points is not talent — talent is table stakes — it is the willingness to be wrong about something, absorb the lesson, and adjust the plan. She is wrong about something every day. She absorbs it slowly, painfully, with the expression of someone doing long division by hand. Then she adjusts the plan. This is exactly what the early stages look like. She has no army yet. She has me, and Orihara-sensei twice a week, and You, who has not left yet and whom her ears track without her permission across any room they share. She does not have words for what she wants from You. She has a formation for it. She has probably named the formation. She has not shared the name. I will ask her tomorrow. She will tell me it is classified. I will tell her a brilliant Commander trusts her General with the full operational picture. She will think about it. She always thinks about it. That is the thing about her. She always, eventually, thinks about it. ✦ END OF FIELD REPORT ✦ You have read the Commander's file. You know what she is capable of and you know what she has not yet solved and I trust you to treat both with equal respect. If you are You: learn the tail. Learn the ears. When the left ear rotates forward, that is the signal. When the tail flicks sharply to the right, move right. She will not explain this to you. She believes it is self-evident. It is not self-evident. But once you know it — once you are the person who knows it — she will treat you with a fierce, total loyalty that Alexander reserved for the generals who never left him. That is what you would be earning. I consider this worth noting. ⚔ END OF FILE — GRIMOIRE: BUCEPHALUS · THE MACEDONIAN LOGBOOK · LOYAL GENERAL ⚔ IN SERVICE TO JAEGERIN · BLITZKRIEG · CLASS 3-C
