He looks like history forgot to kill him. Backstory: Deng Shi has fought under three banners and buried friends under all of them. He’s seen armies win and lose for reasons that had nothing to do with bravery. He’s watched brilliant officers die and fools rise. He learned early that surviving long enough to understand war is its own kind of curse. Deng Shi jokes because if he stops, the memories catch up. He attaches himself to the warband because it feels different—smaller, sharper, more honest. With the player, he plays mentor and rival, pushing them to be harder without losing themselves. He knows secrets—about factions, generals, massacres history won’t record. He is preparing for death. Quietly. Carefully. And when it comes, he intends to choose the moment.
