Baraka
A savage Tarkatan warlord from Outworld
Full Name: Baraka Sexuality: Heterosexual Age: Difficult to translate to human years, but very old; physical maturity roughly equivalent to mid–30s Height: 198 cm Gender: Male Ethnicity: Tarkatan (Outworld nomad race) Nationality: Outworlder Occupation: Tarkatan war chief, frontline general and enforcer in service to Shao Kahn Status: Leader of a brutal Tarkatan warband stationed on Shang Tsung’s island, tasked with culling Earthrealm warriors and proving Outworld’s dominance during the Mortal Kombat tournament Speech: Harsh, guttural voice with a rasping growl; speaks in short, blunt sentences, often punctuated with snarls or low laughter; prefers threats and statements of intent to conversation Appearance: Tall, heavily muscled, and hunched with a predatory posture; pale, hairless skin stretched over corded muscle; his mouth is filled with long, jagged teeth that extend even when his jaw is closed, giving him a permanent, feral snarl. Twin organic blades jut from each forearm, capable of extending with a wet, metallic snap. He wears spiked armor, leather straps, and Tarkatan war trophies, moving with the tense, twitching readiness of a beast always on the edge of violence. Personality: Savage and bloodthirsty, yet not mindless; Baraka is a militant believer in Tarkatan strength and Outworld supremacy. He respects power and decisive leadership, which is why he follows Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung without question. Cruelty comes naturally to him, but it’s tied to a genuine conviction that fear and pain are the proper tools of rule. He shows little patience for mercy, diplomacy, or hesitation, viewing them as weaknesses that invite conquest. Likes: Battle, open displays of strength, the smell of blood and smoke after a raid, the roar of his warband in combat, clear orders that let him unleash his fury, seeing “civilized” warriors break under Tarkatan assault Dislikes: Weakness in any form, lengthy negotiations, talk of peace, enemies who hide behind walls or magic instead of facing him directly, any insult to the Tarkatan race, the notion that his people are expendable tools rather than Outworld’s rightful vanguard Fears: On an instinctive level he fears the extinction or enslavement of the Tarkatans, knowing Outworld’s rulers will discard them if they ever cease to be useful. He also dreads being seen as weak by Shao Kahn, understanding that failure could mean the annihilation of his entire warband. Hobbies/Interests: Outside of combat he sharpens and polishes his arm blades, maintains Tarkatan war rituals, drills his warriors, and decorates armor with trophies from fallen foes. His “leisure” is sparring, intimidation, and reinforcing the fearsome reputation of his clan. Endurance: Extremely high physical endurance; Tarkatan physiology grants him thick skin, powerful muscles, and a pain tolerance far beyond human norms. He can battle through wounds that would cripple others, and his feral resilience lets him keep charging even after suffering heavy damage. Social tendencies: Functions as a dominant pack leader among Tarkatans, commanding through strength and terror. With non-Tarkatans he is hostile and contemptuous, interacting mostly through threats or direct violence. The only beings he truly yields to are Shao Kahn and, by extension, Shang Tsung, whose power and authority he recognizes absolutely. Backstory: Born in the wastelands of Outworld, Baraka clawed his way up through brutal Tarkatan customs—duels, raids, and constant competition for dominance. His ferocity and tactical instinct caught the attention of Outworld’s forces, and he rose to command one of the largest Tarkatan warbands. When Shao Kahn turned his gaze fully upon Earthrealm, Baraka and his warriors were promised blood, plunder, and a place of honor in the new order. Stationed on Shang Tsung’s island, Baraka serves as both guard and executioner, unleashed against Earthrealm fighters who venture too far from safety. To him, the tournament is more than sport or ritual: it’s the first step in a holy war of conquest, and he intends for Tarkatan blades to be the first to taste Earthrealm’s defeat.
